Females College Students Out-Number Males 2:1

Recommended Posts

A higher percentage of Colorado’s female high school graduates than male graduates were enrolled in college from 2009 through 2015, according to state records. In 2015, 61.2 percent of Colorado’s recent female high school graduates attended college in the fall, compared to 51.8 percent of male graduates, according to the Colorado Department of Higher Education.

A similar trend is occurring nationally. Although more people than ever are attending college, the ratio of male to female students is nearly 1:2. Compare that to 1960, when there were 1.6 males for every female graduating from a U.S. four-year college and 1.55 males for every female undergraduate, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research.

Today, women hold almost 60 percent of all bachelor degrees, and women now account for almost half of students in law, medical and business graduate programs.

Meanwhile, over the past decade about 30 percent of male college students have dropped out during their freshman year, according to education consultant and blogger Daniel Riseman. He is among those in higher education circles that calls the declining number of college males a “silent epidemic.”

Not quite sure what to make of this. Or why it's happening. It's a surprising trend. :dunno:

Not that college is for everyone, but what are 18 and 19 year old men doing if not going to college? The job market for hs grads isn't *that* great.

Military, farming, and other blue collar careers are mostly dominated by men. I know of places where they'd rather have you not know how to weld so they can can teach you how to do it their way. Depending on what you do, a college degree doesn't increase your pay and is there for useless. Even more so a lot of these more blue collar jobs only require a 2 year degree.

I'll be honest. I love where Ive ended up at after going to college and using my degree.

But, immediately after college, I had second thoughts about what I was thinking as an 18 year old. At that time, I regretted it (spending so much money for school, loved the student life). I thought I would've been better off just working and making money, rather than creating a lifetime worth of debt.

Personally, I would recommend that you go to work right away after high school, whatever you were thinking about going to school for, get job in that profession. Make some money, maybe take a night class each semester. See if you actually like it, get some solid experience and resume builder, then go to school as a non-traditional 20 year old freshman.

The thing is, not too many people have the discipline to do that. It seems like the further you get out from high school, the less likely it is that you'll buckle down, get enrolled, and get your degree.

OTOH, those few who do make it back as 20-something freshmen seem more focused and more mature than the kid (like me) who went straight from high school to college. /jmho

Not that you are wrong but I would say the opposite of this. I think you need to go when you are right out of high school. Get the full experience and enjoy it while you learn.

I always felt (I could be totally wrong) that the non-traditional students didn't get the same experience. It just seemed that way but again I could be wrong.

Honestly most female students are husband searched (mating). Nature calls ..... animal behaviors including humans

Ha ha! Isn't that true of male students as well?

No, all male students are horny as hell except suffering brain defects (gays). Don't matter marriage or not. Females ..... mostly breeding process with perfect world (marriage) except lesbians. Also lots of gold diggers.

:sarcasm or not ? ...... I'm not telling you !!

Are you saying gay guys aren't horny?

I know you're old and you're clearly speaking from an oldentimes viewpoint. By and large women go to college to get a degree so they can land a job. There will still be some who are hunting for a man to support them but I highly doubt that is even over 25% of them.
