  1. Congratulations to these guys who are getting close to a viable ocean plastic cleanup system and already deployed a few systems to capture plastics at river source.

They usually turn it into pellets and sell it to manufacturers to use to make new products.  By the time you get it to the pellet form, depending on oil prices, it can be cheaper to buy virgin pellets.  A big problem with recycling is unsegregated plastics and plastic additives effect the recycled pellet quality.  Different plastics melt at different temperatures so they can't be mixed. China stopped taking waste plastics because the incoming plastics weren't properly segregated.

I go to the Philippines often and they are litter bugs.  People eat something and just throw the wrappers in the street.  I'm sure it's a habit developed when their food wrappers were banana leafs or other biodegradable material.  It bothered me quite a bit until I realized they don't have any collection or processing facilities anyway.  It seems like the manufacturers of products that are plastic or have plastic wrappers should bear most of the responsibility for dealing with the waste.

That's good news but I wish they were more proactive 20 or 30 years ago.  Plastic recycling is technically challenging and rarely profitable.  China stopped taking waste plastic a few years ago which is probably a good thing.  The map shows a lot of waste coming from there.  Western countries will hopefully develop a better system since they can't just ship it off to China.  What's disturbing is I know Waste Management closed down a lot of recycling centers in the past few years so I suspect a lot is now going into landfills.

@BigRedBuster  Their next step is System 2 which should be close to the upscaled system that will be duplicated to clean up the ocean gyres such as the great pacific garbage patch.  These gyres are huge areas so any solution would take decades to clean up.

Asian nations are the worst plastic polluters.  The biggest problem I see is plastic products were introduced to these countries before having an infrastructure to deal with the waste.  These guys were secretly developing the river system which I believe will have a twofold effect.  Since some kind of infrastructure will have to be built locally to process the waste they collect, that infrastructure will enable land based collection and less plastics will enter the rivers.  That's the idea this guy has https://preciousplastic.com/en/machines.html on a small scale.  Young people are busy cleaning up our mess :)

  4. Apathy is running high.  On this board and in Husker nation.  (And especially at my keyboard!)

  5. It’s been 9 years since I truly enjoyed a Nebraska season. 9.

2010 for me too.  I was back for the Helu stomping of Missouri and thought we might actually be on our way back.  The season ended badly.  I wasn't excited about 2012 but drove down for CCG since I thought it could be a while before we made it back. I was mostly embarrassed by the Martinez run since he was scrambling for his life.  I had watched enough of Wiscy games and was accurately predicting what plays they were going to run while the team looked clueless.  A backup QB that threw 7 times and we couldn't stop them knowing they were going to run, SMDH.  I left at halftime and decided Pelini was never going to get us anywhere.

  6. Watched the first half again. If Vedral doesn't bounce the ball off his knee, does this game take an entirely different trajectory? It could so easily have been 31-9 or even 35-9 at halftime.

What is it about one stupid thing triggering an avalanche of negative momentum that buries us in the end?

We're not good enough to recover from turnovers, penalties or even shanked punts.  Given our weak run game, a single dropped pass seems to kill drives.  Combine that with a porous defense, our margin for error is quite narrow.  I think the staff is pushing the team to reduce penalties and turnovers because of this narrow margin.  Hopefully this becomes habit so if they can get better on offense and defense in a few years, they'll be hard to beat.

  8. No Blackshirt(s) was handed back in over the weekend...looks like “just ok” is ok with them

Keep the damn things or never hand them out, I don't care.  I'm tired of blackshirt drama.  Performance on the field is what matters.

  9. Would you rather lose the way Nebraska lost or the way Texas Tech lost? Sheesh!

Frost said they keep finding ways to lose games so the last thing our players need is new ideas.  Fortunately, our players aren't very interested in football so they probably didn't see that ending.

  10. So Frost was yelling at the wrong Davis twin?  Ha...that has got to suck!

  11. After last night, I'm not sure we don't go 4-8 again.

  12. I think the only reason we don't consider Northwestern our biggest rival is because they don't have a fan base.

    1. 4skers89

      4skers89

Nice fans, hard to build up enough hatred to form a rivalry.  They have managed to get under some Illini's skin proclaiming to be "Chicago's B1G team".

  13. Wandale Update: He's currently on pace for 380 rush yds (4TDs), to go with 50 catches for 652 rec yds (4TDs) through the regular season. That's a combined 1,032 rush/rec yds for a true freshman....Wouldn't be too shabby.

He's also 7th in the B1G in receptions, 9th in receiving yards, and 9th in yards from scrimmage.

That one NW player had some serious jets.  In the last 4 yards he closed quickly.  Stil, if we had 3 more Wandale clones distributed as RBs and WRs we would be formidable.

  15. I think this is great news.

Mix in some play action passes plus counter plays off of it and we could get the OL firing off the ball knocking people on their a$$ while making some decent rushing yards.  Nice change-up and good capability to have when needing short yardage.

  16. We should hire Chris Ash

  17. And on Sunday morning Husker fans awoke to discover shards of glass and a red sticky mess from the broken pitchers of Kool-Aid littering every living room and mancave in the state of Nebraska.  sigh

  18. Honest question....we are a week team mentally. FCS, get some swagger.

      4skers89

Honestly, no we are an FBS team, every week.

  19. The West Division is still Nebraska's to win.

  20. While, this loss isn't completely on them, I really hope the D gives up their BLK shirts to show they have taken a step forward in accountability.

  21. We are now considered to be a cupcake.

I wouldn't call us a cupcake.  More like a frosted cream filled doughnut.  Just as tasty but softer in the middle.

  22. Something to keep in mind today: the result of this game really won't tell us the state of the program. Win or lose.

I disagree.  I think it will show exactly where we are at.

  24. Does anyone else have a hunch that Moos might have pulled in a huge favor or connection to manipulate gameday and primetime to be here? How long has he had this planned?

  25. You guys, I think we're going to beat Ohio State.

    1. 4skers89

      4skers89

I'd be disappointed if we don't win but it seems kind of strange to be talking about a VB game that will be played on 11/30.
