  1. POB's decision was beneficial to both him and the team. I'm not going to crap on him for that.
  2. I hope Pickering carries on our streak of good kickers.  We have made 82% of our field goals since '05 but our worst year was Drew Brown's first season.  That makes me nervous in a season that I think we will have some tight games.

  3. I don't think this was the worst thing recruiting-wise. They got to feel the energy of the stadium and didn't have to sit through a boring blow-out (a nail-biter wouldn't have been a great result either). They still got to hang around and talk with the other recruits and even possibly had more time with the coaches. I don't know how many recruits actually care about seeing a game against Akron. Colorado or Michigan St. might be different, but I don't think the game has a major impact on the visit unless it is getting national attention.
  4. 2:17:00 is proof that time travel exists and it didn't just feel like Taylor Martinez was around for a decade, he really was!
  5. Chinander said there will be no more than 11 Blackshirts.  That should make some people happy.

Good thing it's 11.  Because one more would draw a penalty flag

  6. I really can't blame Gebbia. If he was thinking about transferring he couldn't waste any time. It may not be the best "team player" move, but you also don't want a guy around who is hoping for the starter to fail or to get hurt. He gave it his all and just got beat out. Good luck to him wherever he lands.
  7. When everyone does their job, there won't be any tackles for the DB's to have to make on the back end. Or maybe he's talking about the DB's making the offense miss so many tackles after interceptions! I'm full on drunk on kool-aid!
  8. I would have told my son the same thing. I just want to forget the past 8 years and move on.
  9. I just saw that Steve Warren also talked to the team. As a fan this sounds great, but the players even know who these guys are? In a way, this almost seems like old men trying to re-live their golden years. As a guy in his 30s, I've heard of Warren, but he's not one of those players that much is said about. Until recently, most of us didn't exactly have a positive view of Jason Peters. I heard how he was stuck in the past and only talked about how great he was. Wistrom at least had a substantial NFL career, but I wonder if any players remember that, let alone his Nebraska career. Every school in the country can have great players come back and talk, but it doesn't mean much if the players can't relate. I think it would be more effective to have Suh come in and talk to the team, but I wonder what kind of connection Frost has with him. Suh was dominating at Nebraska at a time when the current players would remember. He is also still playing, making a ton of money, and has a name that is expanding outside of football. I assume that would grab the attention of college kids.
  10. My biggest concern is that there are too many fans with expectations that are too high and they won't be patient enough with the turnaround.
  11. I am just thankful that Riley and Frost put their programs in a position to end up where things are now. I'm not even mad at Riley, he was 50% of the reason why Frost is here today. Riley probably had as many positive results as possible to still be fired in year 3, just enough time for Frost to finish his internship at UCF.
  12. This isn't directed at anyone specifically, but there seems to be a mindset that 3* kids are more coachable than higher rated kids. I want 4* and 5* kids who the coaches can coach and also fit in the system. I'd also like a coaching staff who can see how they can turn a 2 or 3* kid into a 5* kid by the time he graduates. That's where Wisconsin is kicking our butt.
  13. Your name makes sense because you must be living in a cave if you haven't heard this concern before . The one thing I don't understand is how going for the ball will tire out the defense. They are trying to shorten the drive by creating turnovers instead of the long drives allowed by the "bend but don't break" philosophy.
  14. Any offers this early are to guys high on the list. He may not have high ratings, but the staff must think he is pretty good for an offer before his senior year starts. I would be more concerned if we were offering guys of his rating in December or January before signing day.
  15. I don't think this one is even close. Even if Starling had stayed at UNL, wasn't he still considered a project? Crawford seemed like a better fit in Solich's offense and I don't trust Pelini's staff to develop a qb with so much raw talent. I think our program would be in a much different place if Crawford had played football. I think we would be in the exact same place if Starling had stayed.
  16. This is a tough one for me. T-Magic was one of the most electrifying players we've ever had and Lord was one of the toughest. There were times with each when you were wondering what they were thinking. Both gave it their all but neither won a championship (as a starter). My vote goes to Martinez since he never wore those awful pants with the fat red line going down the side.
  17. I'd be willing to guess that stress and pressure is a major consideration in his mind. He had that health scare on the sidelines and I remember hearing of a few other issues that seemed stress related. He may want another try at a higher level at some point but to say he is purposely sticking it to Nebraska by going back home to be the head coach of a pretty good program is a bit overcritical. There are a lot of reasons why he is a good fit at YSU without factoring in his buyout.
  18. Didn't Westerkamp run something like a 4.8 at his pro day which comes after months of training specifically for that drill?
  19. Well again, they weren't eligible in 2012 when they probably would have won it . They have won 40% when they are eligible. Considering UM and PSU also finish in the top 10 of most recruiting rankings, I wouldn't consider that much of a let down. I also don't know why you insist on keeping this focused on conference championships either. They have finished in the top 10 every year under Urban and top six in 5 out of 6 seasons with a national championship. I'm beginning to understand why people say there are unrealistic expectations at Nebraska.
  20. Ok you are right. Ohio St. is underwhelming when comparing them to probably the most dominant dynasty of all time.
  21. Ohio St has a national championship. That's 3 championship trophies in 5 years. In the years they haven't won the division, they had the same record as the division winner but lost the tiebreaker. I don't know what your expectations are, but that's pretty damn impressive regardless of where you finish in the recruiting rankings. We need to win guys like these to get the level we want. The playoff teams are rarely the teams who aren't high in the recruiting rankings.
