ladyhawke
Here is yet another opinion on the NU-UCLA game tomorrow. Yeah, many are putting up the 'upset alert' sign but that's fine with me because PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT NEBRASKA again! On the national level as well as here in Nebraska. (This quote from our favorite (sarcasm sign here!) espnu: "UCLA could have a chance against Nebraska. The Bruins gave Jim Mora a win in his debut against Rice. UCLA's young offensive line, a major question mark coming into the season, knocked the hoot out of the Owls and allowedJohnathan Franklin to rumble for 214 yards, winning Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors in the process. The Bruins' new boss doesn't have to be steeped in the nuance of college football to know that Rice ain't Nebraska. Whether the Bruins can open a few holes for Franklin and keep QB Brett Hundley in one piece (a rarity for Westwood QBs this century) will determine whether UCLA can hang with Big Red. Raise your hand if you ever thought you'd read the following: UCLA might be more overwhelmed by Taylor Martinez's arm than his feet. Martinez worked very hard with his personal quarterback coach in the offseason, and it paid dividends in the season opener. The fleet-footed Huskers QB threw for a career-high 354 yards and five TDs in a win against Southern Mississippi. With Rex Burkhead questionable with a sprained MCL, Nebraska will rely even more on Martinez. If the Huskers QB keeps spinning that magic bean the way he did this past week, Huskers fans should at least keep an eye out for rosy deals on another flight to Pasadena around New Year's Day." http://espn.go.com/ncf/notebook/_/page/GameDayKickoff-2012Week2/week-2-preview Quote Link to comment
HuskerfaninOkieland
I see this game playing out a lot like the Washington game 2 seasons ago. Quote Link to comment
lo country
It is great to be talked about again. Even if only as the upset alert. A poster mentioned on another thread that something like 145 of Franklin's yards came from 2 plays. Our guys played up and down last year. I hope they have found a way to mentally be ready for every game. Quote Link to comment
NUance
http://espn.go.com/n.../week-2-preview Quote in the espn vid: "But it's gonna be a bigger test this week when Nebraska comes to town. They're superior to Rice in almost every way." Almost? Come on espn guy, where is does Rice have us out-manned? 1 Quote Link to comment
zoogs
Number of home football stadiums located in Texas? we have NONE of those. Quote Link to comment
Count 'Bility
I wouldnt call it relativity for us, but rather a lack of options for the media. Regardless, I'll take it. Yes, 2 years ago against Washington. I don't recall as much talk of us actually losing, but I do recall the over abundance of hype for Washington. Sarkesian's first big game. Locker for Heisman. Loudest stadium. bla bla bla. We just went in there and did our thing. It was a big deal too. combine that with the National TV whooping of K-state-which was also supposed to be close- and it vaulted us into the top 5, deserving or not, for the first time in years. We were the flavor of the month. We handle business here convincingly while everyone is thinking upset and roll through the next to games we could be top 10 by Wisconsin. Quote Link to comment

TonyStalloni
It doesn't really bother me that our team is put in the "flavor of the month" category. Until we win over the Wisc, Mich, and OSU and Mich St on the field and do it convincingly, we won't be taken seriously. Even after beating Miami in the Orange Bowl we were the underdog to Florida the next year. We will always be an unknown quantity nationally. Our players come from a variety of places rather than from one geograpical area. Writers in the southeast know most of the players in the SEC because they were high school stars. The same for USC and Texas. They recruit locally because they can. ESPN, while they are a national franchise, caters to the large population areas because thats where ad revenue comes from. If we get positive national attention it will be because the team earned it. Quote Link to comment
bbhusker
I too see this game like the Washington game 2 years ago. We are facing a team in the early stages of rebuilding. SHOULD win comfortably. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
UCLA might be more overwhelmed by Taylor Martinez's arm than his feet. THIS is what I love to hear. I have read several quotes from UCLA coaches where they are talking about trying to slow down our passing attack. THIS is when our running game is going to explode. 1 Quote Link to comment

Landlord
What's with the excitement about people talking about Nebraska "again"? People have been talking about us for the last four years. Ndamukong Suh, championship games, Taylor Martinez, wins over top 10 and top 15 ranked teams, College Gameday, blown out by top 10 teams, etc. We've been in the public spotlight more prominently than we are now, and will continue to be talked about more and more until we drop our level of production. Between two missed fieldgoals, a botched punt, and didn't he kick it out of bounds on a kick off? Then, we have the blown coverage on a kick off return for a touchdown. Quote Link to comment
