SIGNED QB Zack Darlington

Not a good sign, appears he is concussion prone. Not a good sign at all... I suppose this year, the guy who made the hit would be tossed out of the game. I wonder what the high school rules are in that regard.

He wouldn't have been tossed, it was literally the type of play that happens in almost every game where the QB scrabbles to the sideline and the defender lays a shoulder to knock him out of bounds.

Well, it was head t head as far as I can tell, and this year in CFB they're gonna toss guys as per, 'The Kenny Bell Rule" and this hit was worse than Kenny's. Especially if its the QB getting hit.

It was definitely not head to head. Showed the replay a couple times and it really wasn't even that close.

Looked close to me, but looks like he wacked the back/side of his head on the ground pretty hard after the hit and that probably caused it. His neck sort of snapped/whiplashed.

oh crap I didn't know it was a head injury and he has had them before

He also didn't "walk off the field" either. He lay rather still on the sideline after that hit and got put on a stretcher to go to the hospital. It was a rather serious looking injury from my vantage point.

God, Apopka's play calling annoys the hell out of me. I don't know how many times they've put themselves in horrible situations down and distance wise.

Yeah, I forgot to mention the wing-T like spinner back package they run. I don't think their lineman have it figured out yet - they just let defenders run through the holes left by the pulling lineman.

That's Single Wing football from back in the 40s

“The diagnosis is that he has a concussion and has to be under observation for 24 hours,” Apopka athletic director Fred Priest told the Orlando Sentinel. “His parents are staying here with him while the team returns home.”

Also, the video of the hit is at the bottom of the link. It initially didn't look bad, but I guess he hit his head on the ground (which must have been when the injury actually occurred). Hopefully, he is alright but takes his time getting back on the field (head injuries are most common after the first, and this is his third in a short period of time).

Darlington made it worse by lowering his head into the defender. The defender was coming over to give him a big hit to the shoulder and Zack went at the defender trying to give him a hit.

I think the injury was caused when he wacked his head on the ground with a snap, see vid:

Thanks, I hadn't seen that video, I saw the hit live. Yes, Darlington's head does whip against the ground, but he also took a good shot by the defender, when Zack decided to put his head down and take on the contact. When I saw the hit live, I thought "why the heck did he try to lower his head/shoulder against that kid".

Yea, well, I thought the initial hit with the D guy they butted heads for a split second, but others here disagreed. The ground def looks like the culprit. It's like anything, though, some people are more prone to concussions than others and ZD might be one of those guys, much to our chagrin.

Father son coaching situations have closer communication levels. My son had several concussions while racing Motocross. A few years back, and not the scrutiny that the injury now has. We all have had them, if you have played any type of sport at a major level. My guess is, dad knew he was okay and finished his job. He is most likely paid pretty well for that high school gig. It does not look like the team suffered from not having the facilities to play at a national level. They were saying before he was lifted that he was talking and had/never lost consciousness (depending on when you heard it). Kid most likely got the info to dad that he was okay, not to worry. Of course I do not know, and none of you do either.

Has anyone heard anything about his this morning?

But having dealt with it many times I think he will set for quite awhile, if it his 2nd or 3rd. Getting your bell rung was common not to long ago. Man up get back in there was the call. Thank God we have learned that that is not the right path. Caution on every one to the fullest extent. I do not feel that my sport is as active in monitoring it as others.
