Enhance
I think the university should send them to a Lincoln Orchestra concert. That would broaden their horizons and keep them away from that other horrible music. Naw dude. Elton John - Pinnacle Bank - in the flesh. If that doesn't get recruits pumped up then I don't know what will. Quote Link to comment

RedRedJarvisRedwine
The only thing keeping Jay Z from running this country is there is no money in it. Quote Link to comment
funhusker
So... Lets tell our players that we don't support a successful black man because he has "character issues" (not entirely sure what you speak of here) and that they can't go to a Jay Z concert, something that would obviously benefit our recruiting, because of it. Sounds smart. I never once mentioned the color of his skin. They make *** holes of every skin color. I don't think he is the right role model for young people. You may disagree with me but look at what the guy promotes. What exactly does he promote that every other Nebraska worthy entertainer doesn't? Who would Nebraskans "approve" of? Quote Link to comment
jmfb
Jay-Z is a top 5 rapper of all-time. I'm willing to bet 90% of the kids on our team like his music. It's not the product he puts out its the character behind it I'm concerned about I understand where you are coming from- In not a fan either, not my personal cup of tea But this isnt some kind of fringe freak He's part of popular culture for this age group Discard the race card thrown out, some people like to throw that against the wall at every possible instance, regardless of merit- why it's lost 99% of its value- ignored by pretty much everyone now Quote Link to comment
BIG ERN
I might be younger than most people on here but THIS IS JAY-Z. They aren't going to a 2 chainz or lil wayne concert, which would make them stupid. It seems like you just don't like rap music which is fine, but a genre doesn't make the message - lyrics do. husker_fan_from_sweden
I do like rap music, just not his. Dig a little deeper than just face value. Quote Link to comment
zoogs
I kinda think one's personal taste in rap music is irrelevant here. Quote Link to comment
husker_fan_from_sweden
Look I'm not gonna argue about what our guys should be listening to, what concerts happen to play in Lincoln, and what is and isn't a part of the culture. I'm trying to encourage folks to be a little more aware about what knowing what someone stands for before you make it a pitch to a recruit. Quote Link to comment

You may disagree with me but look at what the guy promotes. Sorry I didn't mean to imply you were, but the fact of the matter is, most of our contributing team is black. Black people relate to black people; in fact, they idolize them. I'm sure a good majority of our team idolize Jay-Z not only as an artist and figure, but as a "black" gentleman that made the most of his situation. Telling them that they don't support someone they "idolize" is not going to help recruiting. Sorry. If there is something you can do to increase your chances to land a recruit, you do it. (If it is within the rules, at least.) Quote Link to comment
GSG
What does Jay Z stand for? In his neighborhood, Carter was known as "Jazzy", a nickname that eventually developed into his showbiz/stage name, "Jay-Z". The moniker is also an homage to his musical mentor, Jaz-O, as well as to the J/Z subway services that have a stop at Marcy Avenue in Brooklyn.[20] On 18 July 2013, he announced he was dropping the hyphen, and prefers to be known as Jay Z.[2][3] Quote Link to comment
ObamaRocks91
Jarvis alluded to a very small part of it. What because he wants to make money? How is it different than any corporate executive being greedy and wanting more in bonuses? I don't know many people who don't desire to have more money in life; if anything Jay-Z should be lauded because he has been successful at it. And you act like him coming to a concert in Lincoln means he is going to meet up with every recruit in a sketchy room for 15 minutes so he can discuss his personal morals which you portray to be so horrible. The fact is that 95% of our 2-deep and about every single recruit coming in for an OV that weekend has 5-50 Jay-Z songs on their iPod they listen to everyday. When every recruit outside the Midwest has the perception Lincoln is literally a cornfield with a football stadium planted in middle of it, why is it so bad to promote and say "look, you know that ultra-success guy who produces music you listen to everyday that you really enjoy, he is coming to town. We are not just a cornfield, one of the biggest stars in entertainment is coming to Lincoln, within a walking distance of where you live" Quote Link to comment
