Do you want Northwestern to win tomorrow?

I want NU to win.

But I think it's better if tOSU wins.

Rivalries take "a generation" to form? Nah, imagine if N beats tOSU 3 of 4 next 4 games with the CCG on the line. It might not be an old school rivalry built over decades, but really, if we are the only school challenging you for CC, Rose, NCGs, then we will be rivals.

I totally totally get what your saying about rivalries, as we had our main rival stripped from us (and while I despised KSU, CU, MZZOU) we have been lacking for a true rival for a decade and a half.

But things move faster now and a rival is someone you want/need/bleed to beat. If we stand in WI way or Mich or tOSU way we will be a rival faster than a generation.

It sucks balls for us, as we know the feeling of teams considering us a rival but not vice versa, hopefully we can restore some order and provide the want/need/bleed to some games and at least BEGIN to form rivalries.

How about this--if we continue to split some games and win our fair share, especially for CC, etc--don't dismiss us a a "rival" just cuz we haven't played for 90 years.

I really don't care who wins between NW (sorry- can't use NU for them) and tOSU. Whatever outcome makes the B1G look better is what I'm for.

I think some people are confused about some of us who want Nebraska to earn their way to the ccg and deserve to be there. I just would rather we only go if we can do it without embarrassing ourselves. Sure we might earn the bearth with a couple divisional losses but that would indicate to me that we likely don't belong in the game and the chances for a poor showing would be higher than if we leave no question and control our own destiny. I.e. 2001 NC game. We didn't deserve to be in it and it showed.

What do you do when we deserve to be there and still get blown out ala 2012 Big Ten Championship?

Then it is what it is, there is nothing you can do about it. And let's not kid ourselves, there is nothing WE can do about it either way. We're just expressing preferences here. I didn't and wouldn't have felt this way twenty years ago. We, as a program, have embarrassed ourselves so often of late that I now have a greater desire to avoid any more national embarrassment even to the point of preferring to not even play in a ccg if it looks like we'll screw the pooch yet again.. I can handle losing fine but I cannot handle anymore games like the last ccg debacle.

A win would be nice but really a bonus, as would next week's away game at Wisconsin.. Any 3 and outs. and any turnovers and not controlling the ball to keep Braxton off the field will kill any chance. Do any of those and you're looking at a blowout. It's more crucial (to me) to beat Nebraska and Iowa, along with MSU and Minnesota in a REAL tough schedule. I consider Nebraska a strong rival with the rally cry "Remember the Alamo (bowl, 2000)". I do hope it's close and a good game because the excitement on campus is sky high, with Gameday in town and lot of national attention.

Really?!?

Nice. You remember the Alamo bowl?

See, it's already some "bad blood". To overcome that loss, what would it take for you to feel vindicated? You already beat us at home, yet lost to us at your place w us selling out your stadium.

Not every team can be a "rival" but obviously the purple NU has some history against us.. I'm rooting for you to win, but realize the overall perception of B1G is at stake.

Of course, win or lose for you, we have to beat you (Need). That's one part of the Trifecta of a rivalry already in place. "Bleed" to win is part two.

We need to beat Illinoise first, but I like the fact you harken back to early 2000s.

So, husker fans--who are shaping up as to "need" to beat and "bleed" to beat? (Of course assuming we have a shot at implications of those games) to start rivalry formations.

DAMN we need a rival. BAD

I think we need to get better first. Then we can worry about having a 'rival'. For me it's simple. Nebraska's rivals for me at least are Ohio State and Iowa. That's it. I DON'T want to lose to either especially Iowa.

Oh trust me, I'm thinking long term us being better than we are now before I think "rivalries".

But competition brings us to that level. Purple NU being good only makes us better. If they hold grudge from Alamo Bowl, and we've split 2 games, they make us better by playing at a high level to beat them especially now in division.

Okay, so tOSU is one we have to beat. WI. Iowa we just cant lose to, which we probly won't hardly ever. Is MSU ever really a rivalry for us unless they stand in our way? Or Iowa? Or Maryland? Or Purdue?

Lets narrow it down, assuming we are better 3-5 yrs from now..(don't forget Pelini has best record big 10 last 2 years). Purple NU could be a rival. WI for sure.

But until we legitimately stand in the way of Mich, tOSU will always be (and should ) their rival.

But we can be a rival if we show up like we should, stake our claim. Be in the hunt. Knock off Mich and tOSU and beat MSU, purple NU and Iowa every year like we should.
