OWH: Bo Pelini insults A.D. Shawn Eichorst in expletive-filled rant during final meeting with players

About a week ago, about 10 days ago, I said, I um, went to a couple of the members of the Board, and I don't even know what those guys really do. And I said "hey if this guy isn't gonna do his job, if he doesn't have the balls to go out there and support me, to support these kids, support this program, do me a favor and get rid of him."

Ummmm

If I went over the head of my immediate supervisor to the head boss and demanded my immediate supervisor be fired - I wonder what would happen?

If this is what he said

It's a huge fast moving thread but this has been brought up a few times. That transcript is incorrect. Instead of 'him' it should 'me'. Bo was asking for himself to be fired.

Right or wrong, i am concerned if we have a leader who only saw a guy he just fired 7-8 times for 20 minutes all year. I have seen my boss for more than 20 minutes today alone.

How many employees does your boss have? Did your boss hire you?

my direct boss has 32 direct subordinates and no. I transferred here from our Omaha office.

Dude what is with all the negative to Eichorst? Sure maybe some of the things he has done are not the greatest but comparing him to your boss is off base. I don't know where you work but eichorst doesn't have the time to hold his coaches hand and pat him on the ass when he asks if he is doing a good job. Bo didn't accept responsibility for anything and promoted his unqualified buddies to positions they didn't deserve.

In another of your posts you say something to the effect being worried about the leadership up top. I for one think it's funny that only Pelini had a problem with it, look at our other teams, all enjoying quite a bit of success and are supported by the athletic department to the fullest. The problem wasn't a lack of athletes or injuries. It was the coaching staff and it all started with Bo. I'm sorry but lack of "support" doesn't blow decent leads back to back weeks

I don't think it is fair to label it "an explitive filled tirade".

Yeah. It sounds kinda like this is how Bo regularly talks to his team. Both in message and in language. It didn't sound from his tone or from the reception that he was going out of his way to use some shocking force in this speech.

Just listened to the whole audio. This honestly just sounded like a guy talking to his players about what went down. Sure there was some foul language but he wasnt ranting and raving. He was talking calmly and explaining things to them. Not in any way how i thought it was going to sound.

Except it's probably not at all what happened.

this hurts the program.

I agree, and that is why I'm surprised it came out. When the first tape was released, you can understand why. Releasing this tape and this time is confusing. It does nothing but hurt the University. This exposure certainly can't help Riley's recruiting efforts. The team doesn't need this 10 days before playing in their bowl game. Even if YSU was to back out of their HC choice, it would only hurt UNL even more financially.
How does this hurt the University? I get that it is bad publicity and makes things seem like a total clusterf#@k around the program but, this is about the total and complete classlessness of one man, Bo Pelini, not the University. Anybody that puts any stock in what Bo Pelini says at this point in time is not a smart person. His comments about SE should be given the same weight as his comments about everything else and that means anything he says is basically worthless and likely wrong.

Seems to me that this recording supports the justification for firing a 9-win coach. I mean, wouldn't anyone around the nation listen to his remarks to the team and say, "Yeah, I guess Pelini really was a douchebag after all. Nebraska did well to get rid of the guy."

Agree this supports the idea of firing a nine win coach. But, honest question, when has Bo ever lied? Is there really a reason not give his words weight? Just because he is constantly pissed off person, does not mean his words are untrue, necessarily.

It's not necessarily a question of him lying but more how he seems to be totally incapable of perceiving how things really are. His perception of everything else seems to be clouded and just plain wrong, so why should anyone believe a word he has to say about Eichorst. It's like getting stock advice from the bum who lives under the bridge.

I think someone like Bo, who has no filter and just says what he thinks, is telling the truth and not making Sh$# up, however, it could be his own reality but I think there is a ton of truth to what he ranted about, especially the AD pile-on...think about it, TO was the type to come to practices, have conversations, and make personal connections, if Eichorst was never around and didn't communicate with BO, he was bound to get upset and nervous about what that meant...

Dude in his rant Bo says he didn't like eichorst from the beginning. You don't think he may be blowing things up a little because he just got canned and just didn't like the dude? He literally called him a c word to a bunch of players..,,,

You guys are pu&&y. I like Bo even more.

Look at almost any thread, and if you think you "fans" are not more negative and childish the Bo, your delusional. SE sounds like a complete loser.

Bring it.

I agree about liking Bo more from this, I know that's not popular...and I am glad he's gone, but still nice to see someone who doesn't just do the "company" good-bye and act like everything was fine. Why do we have to be so "PC" all the time, it's like everyone freaks out when someone speaks their mind. If he was working at McDonalds and left that job with a rant like this, we would all say "good job" but when it's a university position and comes with a million dollar salary everyone thinks he has to act a certain way...I like his passion.

Big difference between passion and being a childish jerk off who had the support of one of the most loyal fan bases in the country even after he crapped on us by calling us fair weather and telling us to f ourselves.

This comes a week after Sipple went on Sharp and Benning and insinuated that Shawn Eichorst and Barry Alvarez conspired together in order to bring Riley to Lincoln and set Gary Andersen up with the OSU job in order to get an Alvarez protege (Chryst) the head job. I mean what. the. f#*k.

The LJS needs to fire Sipple. He's totally irresponsible and unprofessional in his coverage of Nebraska and Pelini.

In a day and age of such technology, this is bound to happen, but this surely isn't the first time a coach has bad mouthed a school to his players upon his release. This was meant for his players in a private moment. Sure, Bo is likely a disturbed man, but he just lost what is probably the greatest job he will ever have. I don't doubt his intense care for his players. Curses are just words. I was in favor of his release, but I am personally cutting him shack l slack here

I would sign that petition.

These players loved Bo and looked up to him. That's the position he was placed in by the university.

He set a stunningly disgusting example for them. There's no excuse for it, however mad or wronged he was.

The content of the tape is bad enough. The tone and the reception only make it more chilling. What kind of program do we have here in Lincoln, courtesy of the outgoing coach?

I'm not sure what is more fascinating...

1) the fact that he comes across as a petulant teenager bitching about how his parents grounded him for no reason

2) his apparent complete inability to temper the emotions of a group of young men who needed a calming voice and some kind of message to help them move ahead

3) or Bo's complete ineptitude in even HAVING a coherent message after two days to think about it. He may have his players' 'back', but is it any wonder why the players lack direction on the field? That was a truly misguided rambling.

I gotta say...after listening to the whole thing, something interesting he said:

He talked about how things were great when he got to do the 'Xs and Os', but the other 'bullsh#t' made him want to quit.

He wanted to be a head coach, right? More than anything, from what I remember in 2007. The other 'bullsh#t' is what being a head coach is at a major university.

Best soundbite of the day:

'This stays here, fellas'
