BigRedBuster
Ok....it sucks that our punter got hurt but it sounds like he could be back in the next couple of weeks. in the mean time, Broekemeier looks to be the man. One interesting twist in this is that I always heard that he actually throws a nice ball. Not the best overall QB so he has always been down the list some but he can throw. So.....in the right spot, a fake punt might be interesting with him. I don't see it happening against S Alabama but if we need something in the Miami game, it's an option. 2 Quote Link to comment
BaytownHusker
And I sure hope we have another kicker who can actually punt.. Did you not see Brocks punts.. They were terrible.. Quote Link to comment
Hammerhead
I had that thought in the back of my mind when we punted on 4th and short during the BYU game. I wouldn't have been surprised by a fake there at all. That said, I thought he did pretty well punting for a guy who probably doesn't do a whole lot of it. Quote Link to comment
secretasianman
I didn't think he did too bad, although I did read that Riley may take a look at a kicker/punter on the NU club rugby teams. I'm surprised that Drew Brown wasn't called on since he punted in high school. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
And I sure hope we have another kicker who can actually punt.. Did you not see Brocks punts.. They were terrible.. Ummm...for someone who wasn't recruited as a punter and was thrown into action with very short notice, I thought he did a decent job. He did pretty well under the circumstances. We all hope Foltz gets back ASAP. We will have to do without him till that happens. 1 Quote Link to comment
Red Five
How do we not have, like, a real backup punter on the roster? I mean some fr/so walkon from Nebraska or something? Quote Link to comment
Landlord
Just tape up Foltz' ankle to the point where any tighter and you'd cut off circulation. Don't let that thing move an inch and let him keep going. Quote Link to comment
MichiganDad3
We have been spoiled with great kickers for a long time. It stinks to lose our AA punter, but Broekemeier did OK for an emergency replacement. Who will punt next year? A RS freshman? We should have more options here. Quote Link to comment

Foltz is a junior we will probably recruit one or two and offer scholly this year Quote Link to comment
NUance
I'll be interested to see if walk-on Jamie Sutcliffe gets a crack at punting duties. Maybe kicking too. He has a big leg. Played JUCO last year. I suspect our coaching and training facilities will help him improve in both kicking and punting. Quote Link to comment

Played JUCO last year. I suspect our coaching and training facilities will help him improve in both kicking and punting. McKewon and Severe talked briefly about Sutcliffe. Supposedly he has a very strong leg, but has no control in terms of place-kicking. He also kicks it too low. If Brown continues to struggle, they mentioned Spencer Lindsey (sp?) as a possibility for the place kicker job. I'm too lazy to look it up, but I think he is a walk-on out of Kearney or North Platte (or some other podunk Central Nebraska town). He got added to the roster when the team expanded after classes started, so he wasn't able to challenge Brown in Fall Camp. 1 Quote Link to comment

The Dude
And I sure hope we have another kicker who can actually punt.. Did you not see Brocks punts.. They were terrible..I dunno. His average was just 5.5 yards less than one of the best punters in the nation. That's remarkable for a 9th string QB coming off the bench. 2 Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
Btw....I thought the punting was pretty good this game. Quote Link to comment
Landlord
Btw....I thought the punting was pretty good this game. Broekemeier is a hell of an overall athlete. I have a lot of friends that played against him in high school. Also interesting he kicks with his right foot and throws with his left hand. Quote Link to comment
