knapplc
Lawrence Phillips, the former football star facing murder charges, was found dead early Wednesday at Kern Valley State Prison, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokeswoman Terry Thornton told USA TODAY Sports. The death is being investigated as a suspected suicide, according to press release from the department. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2016/01/13/lawrence-phillips-death-prison/78742058/ Some people, no matter how fast they are, can't outrun their own demons. EDIT - here's Damon Benning talking about LP. Worth a listen. http://www.stationcaster.com/player_skinned.php?s=111&c=981&f=4256103 1 Quote Link to comment
ColoradoHusk
I was just about to post this topic. So sad. Such a troubled man. Quote Link to comment
Redux
Wow, wasn't expecting that. Quote Link to comment
Landlord
That's too bad. Too bad for Lawrence that he could never figure it out, and too bad that he's done everything he could to tarnish the reputation of everyone that tried to help him along the way. Quote Link to comment
Whistlebritches
Listening to Damon Benning talk about Lawrence really opened my eyes about the guy. I'm sure someone has a link to the old podcast around the time when they found his cellmate dead. Quote Link to comment
Vizsla1
May he rest in peace... 1 Quote Link to comment
ColoradoHusk
I don't condone any of his actions off the football field, but he was a very troubled person that had a very crappy childhood. He will always be my favorite NU RB with what he did ON THE FIELD. Depression and mental illness can be very hard to overcome. RIP LP. 5 Quote Link to comment
StPaulHusker
It's probably best for him that it's over. Quote Link to comment
ColoradoHusk
For those who never had the pleasure of seeing LP in a Husker uniform. 4 Quote Link to comment
BaytownHusker
Sad day really. This guy was one of the backs I watched when I played RB for my high school and wanted to run like. I am not going to talk about the negative that he was surrounded by just the good he did on the field at NU. Quote Link to comment
StPaulHusker
For those who never had the pleasure of seeing LP in a Husker uniform. Interesting choice of song for this. 1 Quote Link to comment
cm husker
His run against Florida was the most impressive offensive play of that game (and among the I've ever seen). Then maybe his first catch and run early. Then fraziers run, which was more a microcosm of the game than in and of itself impressive. LP is probably the best "pure runner" that I've seen at the college level. A tragedy all around. Quote Link to comment
Hammerhead
Sadly, I think this is the only way Lawrence was able to find peace. Like knapp said, he just had too many demons chasing him that he couldn't outrun. Quote Link to comment
