funhusker
The “red flag center” is designed to actually help states enforce their own red flag laws. God forbid we try to actually make govt more effective and give communities the resources they need. “Through the Center and its newly launched website, states, local governments, law enforcement, prosecutors, attorneys, judges, clinicians, victim service providers, and behavioral health and other social service providers will have direct access to critical information that will enhance their ability to reduce firearm homicides and suicides. The website will be maintained and updated to include newly developed resources for the field created through the Center, in partnership with BJA. The website also provides a platform for the Center to highlight emerging and promising practices in successful ERPO implementation and connect states and localities to innovative strategies to reduce gun violence and save lives. As of this month, 21 states and the District of Columbia have enacted ERPO laws. Successful and effective ERPO implementation requires a comprehensive and holistic approach that incorporates a wide range of stakeholders. The Center is designed to provide resources consistent with that need.” https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-launches-national-extreme-risk-protection-order-resource-center 1 Link to comment

teachercd
If you own a gun, you are part of the problem. None of us know when one of us might "snap", we just don't. If you own a gun and you are posting here about how you are for stricter gun laws, you are lying. You can't own a gun, you can't claim to be a responsible gun owner (they ALL claim they are) and you can't claim to be mentally sane. You are lying. Because you just don't know what will happen. So please, if you are a gun owner, just stop posting. The fact that we have so many posters here that own guns but then try to post about gun laws is sad. Go turn your gun in, you have never used it, you don't need it. 1 1 1 Link to comment

knapplc
GOOD! Michigan school shooter’s parents sentenced to at least 10 years in prison PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — The parents of a Michigan school shooter were each sentenced to at least 10 years in prison Tuesday for failing to take steps that could have prevented the killing of four students in 2021. Jennifer and James Crumbley are the first parents convicted in a U.S. mass school shooting. They were found guilty of involuntary manslaughter after prosecutors presented evidence of an unsecured gun at home and indifference toward the teen’s mental health. Ethan Crumbley drew dark images of a gun, a bullet and a wounded man on a math assignment, accompanied by despondent phrases. Staff at Oxford High School did not demand that he go home but were surprised when the Crumbleys didn’t volunteer it during a brief meeting. Later that day, on Nov. 30, 2021, the 15-year-old pulled a handgun from his backpack and began shooting at the school. Ethan, now 17, is serving a life sentence for murder and other crimes. 1 1 Link to comment
