GBRFAN
It is curious how you draw Ohio St, Michigan, and Michigan State in one season? Because the B1G office did the cross divisional games to draw more $$$ (getting the TV contract extended at highest possible amount) instead of a rotation of teams from the other division. I understand why they did that, but then I think that the cross divisional games should not count towards your conference record (ie the winner of the B1G west should only be crowned based only on games w/in the west). Agree with this and i feel like more of those big cross games have been away games - the unbalanced schedule would be more tolerable if we saw more action in memorial stadium. Quote Link to comment
marko polo
It's a murderers row of Big Ten teams. It's also a huge opportunity. 2018 will either be Riley's last season as our coach, or it will be what cements his legacy here. No way his future rides on 2018. If next year is similar to this and the recruiting stays up he is here to stay. More like 2019 Quote Link to comment

So a big step back in 2018 could be the straw that breaks the camels back into retirement. Just one realistic scenario. The other is we win 11 games next season and play for the conference title. A title win allows a step back in 2018 because "Well look at that schedule! Not even tOSU could win that!". Quote Link to comment

We lose a lot of leadership and experience while breaking in a new look offense. We do have more favorable home games which helps though. 2017 is a lot like 2015 - I won't be surprised on how it all pans out if that is good or bad. I do think in 2018-2019 we could take that step forward - even with a tough schedule. And if not, we will have a new head coach. Quote Link to comment
I am GLORIOUS
No way his future rides on 2018. If next year is similar to this and the recruiting stays up he is here to stay. What exactly do you mean by "up"? Barely cracking the Top 25 in recruiting and being ranked 5th or 6th in the conference is not what I'd consider "up." Started off strong but it has fizzled out in a big way. Quote Link to comment
teachercd
If the Beavers end up with a class ranked similar to NU...I will really wonder what the heck is going on. 2 Quote Link to comment

If MR can continue to improve the product then those numbers should climb to players in the 89-90 range, however NU has not had a history of top 10 recruiting classes even back during the glory years and the top 2 spots in the big10 are not currently on our radar top 4 would be ideal for now. I am GLORIOUS
Well, finishing 20-22 isn't going to win us any championships. I doubt we'll even finish that high; might not even crack the Top 25. Only way I see us returning to top dog status is by hiring a big-name coach and proven winner and top recruiter that 4 and 5-star guys will come to Lincoln to play for. My choice? Les Miles. He has won a national title, played in another, has beaten Saban multiple times, has ties to the south, and is an excellent recruiter. Not to mention his son is coming to play here. Give Miles a 5-year deal to right the ship, then bring in Frost to continue it. Quote Link to comment

Miles is a good Coach but he wouldn't just be able to reel in 5 stars from all over the country at nebraska. Any Coach at LSU will recruit well bc they are in one of the most talented areas in the country and the only big show in the state. 1 Quote Link to comment

I wouldn't say, as of now, it's "up". Edit: Just for clarification I didn't count 2015 as it was obviously only a partial class for each. 1 Quote Link to comment

That's what recruits want to hear. Quote Link to comment
Making Chimichangas
It looks daunting now, Wisconsins schedule looked miserable this year and they came out just short of the playoffs.... It is curious how you draw Ohio St, Michigan, and Michigan State in one season? Not only that, but all of them are on the road. I mean if we get the 2019 schedule and all those teams come Lincoln, then okay. But the schedule makers in the Big 10 couldn't give us at least one of those games at home? Quote Link to comment
