I had two windows open at once. https://www.statista.com/chart/8521/expenditure-of-nato-countries-in-2016/ Wow, that's really bad. The US provides the largest percent of the largest economy. It's not even close. 2 Link to comment

The have lost approximately 1/4 of their overall protectable power from before. Their greatest strength is the meat grinder. And the amount of men they can thrust into service via forced conscription. I heard they can train/send 20,000 a month to the front last night. Link to comment

While that’s true quantity is still a quality. Ukraine may have some good western equipment but their backbone is still Russian leftovers. And a hodgepodge mashup of equipment leads to higher logistical costs & bogs down planning operations. Link to comment

Yeah, on offense they suck BUT they have what, 60 million "men" that they can force to go fight or sick attack dogs on them if they refuse? What did Stalin say all those years ago? "Women can have more sons" 2 Link to comment

Russian War doctrine has essentially been "the Russian people can endure more suffering than you can". They had an official say as much just after the war began. 1 hour ago, teachercd said: What did Stalin say all those years ago? "Women can have more sons" This is why most countries don't include women in conscription. It's not because men make better soldiers - women are actually much better at shooting - but because women can do something men cannot, which is to have babies. You can go to war every 20 years if the population of women is relatively unaffected. Men are expendable to military planners, women are not. Link to comment

The bigger picture problem is that the fertility rate is 1.4-1.5 and is well below the replacement rate of 2.1 kids per female. The tactic of being able to do a war of attrition is of a bygone era for Russia. Unless structural societal changes happen inside Russia, the numbers won’t be there for much longer. 1 Link to comment

Ultra-nationalist Russians in the Kremlin are making choices for Russia that are terrible in the short term and catastrophic for Russia in the long term. The war in Ukraine for them has gained them a small amount of territory in exchange for economic ruin and and already dire demographic situation cataclysmic. Link to comment
