Term limits for every single federal job without exception is a no-brainer to me.

This would be a bit of a disaster I think. TSA agents are federal employees. It should be policy and law making positions that have term limits. Or better yet, any elected position. Because that's the real problem here. People doing what's best for themselves and staying in power, rather than what they think is best for the country. With term limits, I feel there would be more people doing what's best for the country because they wouldn't constantly be thinking about re-election and donor money.

Term limits for every single federal job is a terrible idea.  Tens of thousands of hourly employees don’t need to be term limited.

I'm fine with it only being elected positions, but I'm also fine with it being all federal jobs with different limits. There's little to no need or benefit to the public to have 88 year old HR specialists or DAs or Management Program Analysts or anything else really. I'm not saying every federal job should only be workable for 8 years, only that nobody should be 90 and working these jobs. I'm being a bit facetious but I'd prefer an overcompensation in the direction of uncalcifying (probably not a word) the systems compared to the current reality.

Also, if your term limit is "up" and you know you are done...are you really going to be all that productive as a worker?

"Oh, this is my last year...no matter what...I am just going to screw around"

That might be when you're actually the most productive because you stop trying to be a politician.

What really needs to change are campaign finance laws, time frames that politicians can campaign, and ethics laws regarding investment activities by politicians and their families.

Yes, this is another massive one. I also think there should be some firm regulations regarding flipping in and out of private/public sector work where your public work necessitates holding private sector work accountable.

Welcome to an attitude that private industry is not allowed to have.

It’s possible I’m off base but i don’t think we currently have an issue with 85-90 year olds gumming up the federal workforce.

However, what you are actually recommending is a mandatory retirement age and not term limits for federal employees.

It'd be more than a bit of a disaster.  It'd be an absolute collosal clusterf#&%.  People really don't know how the government functions or what duties it performs until the day it's gone.  Turnover is a huge hidden cost and efficiency loss in any industry.  So let's mandate it for the federal government.

If a Republican Speaker refused to vote on those as one big package and added in that budgets had to pass by regular order appropriation and no more omnibus budgets but Hakeem would put it up for a vote and it was guaranteed to pass the Senate and Biden would sign….at that point I would support Hakeem for speaker of the House.
