NUance
New Husker receivers coach Matt Lubick inherits bare cupboard for first spring By Evan Bland / World-Herald staff writer Mar 2, 2020 Scott Frost tells the story that when he arrived at Nebraska in December 2017, he and his staff inherited just four scholarship receivers. They prefer to carry 10 or 11. After Monday’s announcement involving JD Spielman and Jaevon McQuitty, the Huskers again stand at just four scholarship receivers LINK ========================================= 10 or 11 scholie receivers? Wow, that seems like a lot. 3 Quote Link to comment
Nebfanatic
Manning and Betts better be ready to rumble this fall 5 Quote Link to comment
knapplc
There's almost zero chance they're not beating the bushes for any transfer WR available right now. I'm guessing this picture will look different when we head into fall camp, but different may not be better. 6 Quote Link to comment
84HuskerLaw
So just curious: how many Frost scholarship WRs since he started have we given? Seems like he has to have more than just 4 meaning quite a few have left in just 26 months? 2 Quote Link to comment

I can imagine the meltdown if those two didn't qualify. I read this week that Manning was really close with Walters also, thought that was interesting. More work for Lubick there. If he will meet his own desire and expectation then this isn't an issue. I will throw in McCaffrey here as well. Let's see these guys step in a fill the void ... rather than crumble under the first sign of adversity in this season. Quote Link to comment

Do we know if there's some kind of legitimate ongoing concerns about Manning's eligibility for 2020? Quote Link to comment

I don't know of anything concrete no, just assurances from his JUCO HC that he is on track to make it sometime this summer. What is that guy really going to say though if he isn't? Haven't heard a recent update on Betts. https://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/sipple/steven-m-sipple-held-keeps-tabs-on-manning-the-mccaffrey/article_746cbaff-fb14-546f-873e-e3f45d741e70.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter_huskerextra 2 Quote Link to comment
BIG ERN
Without JD, Wandale is the only returning WR to catch a TD on the entire team...Manning needs to come in with that beast mode mentality Quote Link to comment

There are some decent options in portal right now, but with the potential change in transfer rule that could come in April, it's probably best to wait until after Spring. There will be more players looking to transfer at that point anyways. Quote Link to comment
theknife
Any DBs that played WR in high school that could give WR a shot this Spring? 1 Quote Link to comment
HuskerPwr
What about the WRs that were recruited last year? Houston, Nance? Any one know if they’re expected to be contributors? Quote Link to comment
10_point_buck
but, but , but....look at our recruiting rankings Seriously, you have to develop young talent. If guys were that good and that good right out of HS, they are probably not showing up on our rosters anyway. In year 3 to not have anyone at WR is a bad situation. Hoping (and praying) some true freshmen step up and step in is KooL Aid tainted glasses talking. What about our TE's ? I thought this offense was supposed to utilize the TE's and I have yet to really see it. We have a boat load of them, but never really used them. Austin Allen in the slot is a match up problem for most LB's but we don't go to it. Might have to stop trying to pound that square peg into the round hole and figure out how to utilize what we do have better than we have. But, I'm no coach and Im sure the staff has it all figured out already. Could make for an interesting Spring Game to have the same 4 guys playing on both offensive groups. 2 3 Quote Link to comment
LumberJackSker
Run the ball guy has got to love this. No more pass happy cute run the ball 60% of the time offense when you don't have any receivers. Quote Link to comment
