  1. If status updates are going away, it would seem I'm going to have to start posting in threads. See you all on the flip side.

  2. Chad, Just wanted to say thanks for all you've done to give all of us Husker fans a home for so long. I can easily say that without the forum here, my passion for the team and for the people who support the team would not be nearly as strong. David, Welcome aboard. Looking forward to seeing what happens as the worlds merge.

Us too, this weekend anyway. Best of luck!

  4. Just put in my notice at my job a month in advance. Told by my boss that I should have trusted them more and told them sooner. Also told by my boss I might lose my benefits because I'm only part time during the summer. Take home message: Don't notify employer in advance that you're leaving, just stop showing up. What BS.

@Huskerzoo Yeah, moving around in academic jobs can be tough on any relationship between you and more senior members of the department you are leaving. One reason is because filling a open faculty line can be a 1-2 yr prospect for the department. Honestly, you got to do what is best for you.

As far as when you should tell your chair you are on the market, you got to read your own situation. It does not always pay to tell your chair you are leaving early in the process because I have heard stories about chairs trying to sandbag your candidacy. On the other hand, I have heard riffs can form between you and your former colleagues if you wait too late or leave under uncertain terms.

Moving past all of these generalities and worst case scenarios, from what I know about your situation, you are making a good move. It is hard living apart for a spouse, so getting appointments at the same university is awesome.

Employees are supposed to give employers advance notice, but how often do employers give advance notice that they're cutting an employee loose?

Moving around in education sucks...It is almost like they try to shame you for leaving or wanting to leave.

  5. I figured I'd get this bumped because I'm always looking for new music. I tend to listen to a ton of indie/punk and any derivatives of those genres. Right now I'm listening to a lot of:
  6. Off-season posts or a colonoscopy?

I'll take the colonoscopy. At least you're unconscious for that

Leaning towards the colonoscopy.  Too many pissy attitude cowards during offseason.  Same really during season but at least there are games to distract me from getting annoyed by it.

Is this related to the lube question?

  7. Yeah, I'm gonna say that objectifying the VB team probably belongs in the shed if anywhere. This thread is about Duval's program as it relates to football.
  8. My read on all of this is that we're going to have a few years of not entirely knowing what we have as the roster works towards stability. It feels like we're making progress almost everywhere, but it will take seasons where nothing goes wrong for another year or two for us to have a real good season. Our roster needs depth in some places and top end talent at others. It's just not quite there yet. I do feel as though our coaches are doing what they have to though and turning over the roster at a good clip. I don't think we're far, but I do think it's going to feel a bit like two steps forward and a step to a step and a half back at times for another year. My hope is that with a more reasonable schedule this year we build optimism that isn't warranted and maybe lose our bowl game and in 2020 we carry that optimism and have a team and schedule that can live up to it. By 2021 which should be another harder year (I think) we have a tough team that can compete even in difficult schedule years.
  9. Thinning the herd. I'm hoping that this is a reflection of the staff feeling like they have enough depth to encourage guys to move on.
  10. I mean, you don't get cut for not being "good". This isn't the NFL. I want to know the story.
  11. As far as I know there's only two. Cut Spike and Soldier Valley. I haven't lived in Nebraska for awhile though. I'm excited I just found this thread, I've got about 35 bottles of whiskey in the house a bunch of which I still haven't tried.
  12. Anyone have any general house buying advice?

If possible...see if the basement has a deep well...it can come in handy.  My last neighbor, Buffalo Bill, he had one, raved about it!

If you live in a northern climate that gets snow, its best to have a south facing driveway (or at least not a north facing driveway).

Avoid homes with backyards against a main road. Unless you can handle that constant noise

  13. I think it's important to remember with running back that last year we were in a similar position. Didn't look like we had anything great and oz broke out. Rbs sometimes suprise you.
  14. Did the seemingly impossible. Wife and I offered tenure track positions in the same department. Chair of the department is also a husker fan. Life is good.

It can't be coincidence that @Huskerzoo and his wife accept new faculty  positions the same time that KU announces a new course offering (mentioned in @RedSavage's update). First, welcome to Lawrence. Second, which of you is teaching that course? :P

  15. I was thinking more of screen time or announcements during the final four.
  16. For what it's worth, look at the dates and do some math. https://www.ncaa.com/final-four The timing could work out for a splash hire.
  17. For most state positions, you have to have applicants taken. I've known quite a few inside hires in academia where people were still flown out for interviews who realistically had no chance for the position.
  18. There's a rumor on reddit of a 3pm presser. No reason to believe in the person based on their posting history, but it's my contribution to this conversation.

  21. Folks. There will not be two threads like this. Sauces of all types are off limit here.
  22. Would've tied for top at the combine. Not really an event where you can inflate the numbers too much at a proday either (unlike say a 40 time).
  23. My impression is that it's because of the numerous legal things that are being brought up by the woman in the video. It's all kind of getting mushed together. I haven't seen anything that has linked Mo to being in the video in any way. I think a lot of people are having similar conversations to what we're seeing here.
  24. The pace is a little hard to keep up with. but I got it.
