Fuzzy
While writing a term paper for my Composition II class, i decided to write a comparison essay on Pro-style offense and Pistol offense. And i started to think would the Huskers benefit with such a offense. Now i don't know much about Tim Beck and his offensive history except at NU. But I'm wondering would he implement such a system and would it work to the advantage of the players on the offensive side of the ball. It seems to me that you can still run the zone-read with the pistol based offense and I've always heard that it based around the use of dual-threat QB's like Taylor Martinez, Cody Green and Bubba Starling. So I am curious if other Husker fans feel the same way? Could Nebraska run a Pistol based offense in the Big Ten and be successful with it? Quote Link to comment
Ringer02
They ran out of the pistol a few times in the spring game Quote Link to comment
Fuzzy
I didn't really notice it too much during the spring game. Truthfully i think they would be pretty good running the pistol as a base offense, especially since Bo likes to go after dual threat QB that are fast and shifty. Quote Link to comment
huskerjack23
I think Nebraska should run the Hawaii Run and Shoot Pistol. Quote Link to comment
Enhance
I think Nebraska should run an offense where we score a lot of points often. 1 Quote Link to comment

Blaze1up
I don't care for that Nevada style offense, much rather see some ground-N-pound and spread them out. Quote Link to comment
Saunders
I don't care for that Nevada style offense, much rather see some ground-N-pound and spread them out. Uh, that's what the Pistol is. Nevada (running the pistol) had 1,000 yard rushers at QB, HB, and FB... all in the same season. 1 Quote Link to comment
RedDenver
Didn't we run out of the pistol quite a bit last season? Quote Link to comment
The Dude
I say we put Cody in the shotgun and throw bombs to KC Hyland for 4 quarters. Quote Link to comment
Forge
single back, smash mouth would be my preference. But, I would be happy with any style as long as it puts up points and takes the pressure off our defense. Quote Link to comment
BIG ERN
Yes, we can definitely be successful using this offense. Its like running a simple Ace formation, but in shotgun. I love the pistol. Quote Link to comment
kchusker_chris
Didn't we run out of the pistol quite a bit last season? That's kind of what I was thinking. Currect me if I'm wrong, but the pistol is more of a formation than an "offense" with the back directly behind the QB, and the QB a couple yards closer to the line than in a standard shotgun passing down. That way he can read (zone-read) the defense better, and the play can move to either side of the field because of the position of the back. Â Missouri uses it and everyone considers them a "spread" team. Â I think you might have been comparing apples to oranges for your Comp II paper - hope that turns out OK. Quote Link to comment
It'sNotAFakeID
One of the better paper ideas i've ever heard of. Quote Link to comment
Landlord
This isn't a new idea. We did a ton of stuff out of the pistol last year, and will continue to do a ton of stuff out of the pistol next year. Some people have even referred to the new offense as a pistol offense. Quote Link to comment
