Bo's statement:

Crick Suffers Season-Ending Injury

Nebraska Head Coach Bo Pelini has issued the following statement on senior defensive tackle Jared Crick:

"After further examination on Tuesday, it was determined that Jared Crick has a torn pectoral muscle and he will be out for the remainder of the season.

"I feel extremely bad for Jared. He is a young man who has represented this program in a first-class manner throughout his career. He made an unselfish decision to come back to Nebraska for his senior year and earn his degree, which he did this summer. He has also been a leader on and off the field and a young man who has made a positive impact in our community. Jared has a bright future in front of him on the field at the professional level. I know he will bounce back from this, and become a stronger player and person.

"It is a tough blow for our football team to lose a player of Jared's caliber, but we have players that are capable of stepping up and filling the void."

Crick ranks eighth on the Nebraska career sacks list with 20, including 9.5 in both 2009 and 2010. He also has 35 career tackles for loss and 167 career tackles. Crick was a first-team All-Big 12 selection in both 2009 and 2010.

why couldn't i have torn my pectoral muscle instead. this is really unfortunate for the team and crick. he should still have an opportunity to have a successful career in the nfl. i guess this is just an opportunity for some young guys to step up. it really is too bad that the defense had an opportunity to turn a corner and then on of the three pillars of the defense has a season ending injury.

Excuse Mr. Crick for not having Prince, Gomes, Hagg, Asante, and Ohanlon to give 6 damn seconds to get to the quarterback.

This. This is why people have been saying it's not the D-Line, it's the secondary.

As soon as our secondary started covering passers in the second half, we were getting to both QBs. It just happened that we whiffed more than once on an open-field tackle when getting tOSU's first QB, and he scrambled to get a first down as a result.

If Jean-Baptiste can contribute opposite Fonz and the rest of the secondary can start playing worth their level, then we'll see our D-Line getting more sacks, our LBs getting more disruptive, and the whole of our defense will improve.

And no, improved secondary play is not a magic bullet--but it does give our D-Line opportunities that aren't there now because of the QB's ability to pass to an open receiver downfield.

No chance for med red shirt?

Highly unlikely, and unlikely that he'd apply. He's already earned his degree and he was close to entering the draft last year. I don't think he will have so adversely impacted his draft stock that he'd need to come back next year and "prove" that he deserves a higher ranking.

Also, to get a medical I think you have to miss two years. He's already redshirted (2007) so a straight-up redshirt isn't an option.
