Bo and Paps

Recommended Posts

Honestly? I thought Bo's first "how the f#*k does that happen?" to Paps was pretty funny. Couldn't have said it better myself.

When it was still going on the the fourth quarter, a lot less so. When Bo was screaming at a ref with :24 seconds left in a game we should be celebrating, it starts to get a bit dysfunctional.

I'd have a lot more respect for Bo if he fired Papuchis today and took over the defense himself. Right now he's asking his defensive players to show up on Monday and play for Papuchis, a man Bo doesn't appear to respect himself and pretty much casterated in front of the team during a game. As a head coach and defensive specialist, Bo shouldn't be surprised by anything Paps does on a Saturday. And yeah, I'm perfectly aware of how Saban yells at players and how Bob Devaney used to, but what Bo is doing now isn't a good look for the Husker family. It just isn't. And it has nothing to do with TV cameras going after him unfairly. Please.

The Bo Hating and the Bo Rationalizing on this board runs pretty much neck and neck. So I'm sure the truth is in the middle.

By the way, there's a good reason why out-of-state neighbors and women not liking Bo Pelini matters. Anyone want to take a guess?

You can't be serious, can you? Ask Zac Darlington's parents what they think of Bo Pelini...

Put Bo's coaching aside and the guy is a class act as relates to recruits and community service. I do not think we can question anything about his character and teaching the guys to be responsible for their actions.

Last year the Husker D was ranked in the 70s after four games. Going into the CCG the ranking had improved to mid thirties.

The ranking was great, except it didn't take into account the loss of a DT by the CCG. Meredith was the best available option. Combine that with our slow LBs and it's a recipe for disaster around the LOS.

Don't let other opinions or interpretations get in the way of Guy's rant. He's really on a roll. I know I'm convinced.

I honestly didn't think I was alone in my concern over Bo Pelini's recruiting history.

Well, you live, you learn.

Because you've probably never even been in the recruiting section

Bo was letting the ref have it because that crew wanted to get out of there and were not standing over the ball to let NU make defensive subs to match Illinois subs. It was bs and led to what appeared to be a subbing snafu by the staff. So that doesn't bother me one bit.

Yes, and if he doesnt, he gets roasted for not "coaching till the last whistle, no wonder we suck, bla bla bla". Chalk another one up in the "Bo cant win" column.

Wow, we see some marked improvement and life by our "D" and some of you guys go back to the "Bo is an embarrassment" clause.

What I seen Saturday was a HC who had worked with his players and his staff for 2 weeks trying to get some life pumped back into them and was not going to accept the "everyone gets a trophy who competes" mentality.

I am not saying Bo is in the clear and will get the coach of the year award for Saturday’s team performance but he did help create a sense of urgency! Did we beat one of the better B1G teams Saturday, probably not ~ but we took a step in the right direction and I look forward to seeing him continue to get this team more efficient and play with more fire.

We have the hardest part of our schedule coming up in a few weeks and he will need his team to play much harder and more aggressive than what they did Saturday to compete in those games. Anyone else watch the NW and OST game and see how aggressive both of those teams played?

As for Pap and Bo's sideline antics, so be it! Sorry Pap but you don't get a trophy for just showing up ~~~"Welcome to the REAL WORLD"

Little puppy papuchis will be just fine

I feel slightly more hopeful for the D's progress after this game. Seriously after UCLA I was ready to throw in the towel. Too many blowouts and excuses by Bo just left me to the point where I wanted him out period. If he can circumvent Papuchis and lead the defense to making substantial progress where we can get back to the big 10 championship game, then maybe he will survive this year and grow in his role as head coach. I hope he can as I don't want to start over.

It is interesting seeing him take over the reins on defense. Paps is practically clueless and a poor choice as DC. We will know a lot if the D make huge progress by the end of the year. It will tell us the steady decline on defense over the last couple of years is perhaps more due to coaching than talent. Again this is on Bo.

I wish the best of JP, I hear he is a great guy, fantastic dad and husband

AND we were probably hosed on how the refs were letting IL sub late and not give the D time to respond

He did make some good 3rd down calls and MADE a nice adjustment when the O was in 10 personell- in the 3rd quarter he moved a safety into the box to take away the zone read that was gashing us-

We also defended pretty well against 21 and 22 personell- something we probably will see a lot of in the B1G

BUT

Ive never seen that may 12 men on the field penaltys since watching Pop Warner 8 year olds

Ive havent seen 2 timeouts called on D to get players on the field since watching Pop Warner 8 year olds

I havent seen 6 defenders set and 5 guys running from the sidelines onto the field while a snap was going since watching Pop Warner 8 year olds

And that was week 1, 8 year olds, those 8s handle that much better than NU did once they are in about week 5-6

Well if YOU haven't seen it then no one has!!!! Obvious since you've been a fan since 1744. And obvious since 8 year olds get called for penalties all the time. I think they flagged jack on his run because of paps too.

Get over it stalker, does your mommy know you are home from school today chuckleshuffle

so in one sentence you admit the defense was getting hosed then go on a tirade about what they were getting hosed on. had the personnel issues solely been on the coaching then the tirade would be warranted but since they werent why even bother unless your sole motive is to bash the coaches. did they have these issues throughout the game or was it basically isolated to the last 5 minutes of the game when benches were being emptied? little common sense goes a long ways.

Alignment issues are basic football 101 In todays game of spread, multiple warp speed offenses- you have to be prepared AND be able to recognize and adapt to different player groupings

Sometimes they let it go ALA Baylor a few years ago, sometimes they dont- you have to be prepared for both

MANY teams win in blowouts every week all across the USA

NU has won in blowouts many weeks

In all of those games the "benches" were emptied

In all those games in all those years here and on TV how many times have you seen that many 12 men on the field penalties? How about having to take the timeouts or having 5 kids come onto the field late? Davison was laughing about it.

so what you are saying is there should be no real expectation of the rules to be called correctly for 60 min in a blowout? probably what should have happened was the coaches put 11 guys on the field and they tell them to get it done no questions instead of trying to shuttle in bench players for bench players so those bench players can get a feel for the substitution patterns being used because the rules may or may not be followed.

back to my point, if you are going to acknowledge they were getting screwed then dont make a huge production about what they were getting screwed on.
