lo country
We all saw his potential on the recruiting trail when he got Corey Cooper, now put forth that effort all year. Coop has really stepped it up. Imagine him with 3 years of Sanders tutalage. Imagine SJB and Evans. Beast mode x2. Personal issues, rumors etc aside, Sanders can flat out coach DB's. Hell our ST coach does a pitiful job in that department and is still coaching there. Who really cares if Sanders is not a "stellar" recruiter. I am sure after being a HS coach in LA he has made some good in roads. HIre a phenomenal recruiter coordinator and let this (recruiting) staff go to work. I would also like to see what percentage of kids we get that other top tier programs want. Sanders has the ability, IMO, to develop the diamonds in the rough and have them excel. Any DB recruit who follows football knows the kids that are in the show that learned from Sanders. Just saying. Quote Link to comment
Count 'Bility
I swear I read somewhere that Sanders spends less time on technique and more time on scheme. That he's more of a "I dont care how you get there or do it, just get there and do it" type of guy. That he lets the guys play with more comfort instead of trying to make them focus on gettin their bodies to do things theyre not used to. Anyone else back that up? Quote Link to comment

I think that came from some of the players when they were discussing Raymond's first year here. I think they were also more aggressive under Sanders. Quote Link to comment
okaive
Marvin Sanders wikipedia page has been updated, this one is in the bag folks. Are you the one that updated it? Quote Link to comment
dutch91701
Any chance of Sanders coming back for more than just DB coach? Sanders can flat out coach and recruit and it seems JP flat out can't. Seems to make sense. Sanders would be a slam dunk at DB coach, so why all the other names floating around? Just throwing some stuff at the wall here. Quote Link to comment

I think that came from some of the players when they were discussing Raymond's first year here. I think they were also more aggressive under Sanders. IIRC it was Fonzie commenting on the difference. Raymond was more technique and Sanders was more physical. Seemed a lot of concern at the start and IMO warranted. Our DB's in 2011 did not play near as aggressive as previous seasons. Here is a link http://journalstar.c...88e05b.html Sanders also believed that the only was to catch a pass was to be open. By jamming at the line, laying them out or pushing them out of bounds, Sanders taught the DB's to not allow the receivers to be in a position to catch the ball. Pressing at the LOS seemed to really be his strength. 2009 and 2010 we were # 1 and #3 in pass D efficiency. Not bad considering the O's we faced. And in 2003 our secondary laid waste to the INT record books. Just sayin Quote Link to comment

He held back Philip Dillard and was really hard on Lavonte. I can understand a coach being hard on a player bc he thinks mentally they can take it and have the want to improve. As for the other Philip Dillard's in the program, his pride gets in his way. Quote Link to comment

Agreed. One thing you can't take away from Pap, is his recruiting! The only coach on defense that can recruit better than him, is Coach K. That dude is and can get some RAW talent on the DL. Paps and Els are the reason we have the talent outside of the DL. Pap is a huge reason in landing those guys Kaz gets as well. Quote Link to comment
HuskerNationNick
If we get this guy back, I will be even more excited for this team than I was already! This guy can outright coach. Players he has had commit: Alfonzo Dennard- Pro Dijon Washington- 4*- didn't do anything here, but he is playing semi-pro football David Whitmore- 4*- Didn't qualify for grades, may have been a solid player and went JUCO (IWCC). If Sanders was here, he would have came back. Cory Cooper- Starting Safety- 4* Josh Mitchell- Starting DB- 3* Andrew Rodriquez- 4*- Starting OL- Great Senior season Obviously not everyone you recruit high are going to pan out, but these are just some of what he has gotten here. The guy isn't a "numbers" recruiter, but he has gotten some good talent here. Quote Link to comment

I don't know where you heard that Sanders can recruit, but the truth is that Sanders is a terrible recruiter. We need people who can recruit and don't embarrase the university on thier recruiting trips. Which of course means that Sanders should never be a Husker again. 3 Quote Link to comment
