If we're at 15 and saying we want 22... it's a little off.

 

We're looking at 3 DB's, 3 WR, 1 RB, 1 OT, 1 DL, 1 LB. That means we are looking at 25 in this class.

According to whom?

Now, I agree with you. I think it should be closer to 25 especially if we have the top recruits on the board wanting to commit.

 

 

Barring some departures, 24 is the max right now.

 

But, I expect to see some departures.

Wow...I did a class calculator simulation and added my wish list of:

 

Greg Johnson = Predictions coming in for Nebraska

Sarell = coaches have been after him for 4 years. Good in home visit.

Lewis = picked up a CB yesterday

Shelvin = Actually planning to visit...but, still a long shot

Lenoir = chances went up when he decommitted from Oregon

Isaac-Slade = don't know much about his intentions

Jamire Calvin = very interested in Nebraska

 

This would put us at 22 recruits like what Riley indicated yesterday. We would end up with 10 recruits at 4 or better (3 - 5 ). We would have an average rating of .8969 which is a 4 rating.

 

We still wouldn't break the top 10 in recruiting classes if you compare that score with the last three years rankings.

 

I think this would make one hell of a class and we still wouldn't make the top ten.

 

I am a little surprised that Riley doesn't think this class will be slightly bigger than that.

You're probably thinking of Rivals. IIRC, they base their ratings of the top 20 commits.

You're probably thinking of Rivals. IIRC, they base their ratings of the top 20 commits.

 

Very well could be. If so I'm glad they do, as I think that makes the most sense in terms of combating teams that bring in 33 players in a class while still giving a good representation.

I like how 247 does it where every recruit is figured in but as you go down the list they become less of a factor to the point that when you get to the end, they don't add much to the calculation.

 

Getting over 20 recruits is important and it can add valuable depth.

 

So, let's say we are sitting at 22 recruits. If we add a low 3* player, it doesn't add much. If we add a 5* stud, it will add quite a bit.

Again, I think it is great to get a highly rated class based on their stars, etc. and it is all very interesting but the MOST CRITICAL concern is not so much the rating of the class as a whole but the degree to which you land the key 'dirty dozen' or so that fit into your areas of most need. We could land 22 fabulous 5 and 4 star WRs and Gebbia and it could be a top three class by star/points rating but be a disaster in terms of building a winning team.

 

If our area of most critical need is linemen (my opinion, for example) then we absolutely need to recruit the best darned linemen in the country. We could live with a bunch of 2 and low 3 star WRs, RBs, CBs etc. IF we got about five 5 star offensive linement and four 5 star D linemen.

 

It is very complicated. Osborne and Company used to be very happy as long as they 'filled' their areas of most critical need. In the late 90s, we got all we needed and almost all we wanted. We won't know on this class until we see who the final signees are but we need to find some very key guys to finish out well.
