Tim Beck's comments

I didn't think his comments were too bad.

Seems like that attitude though- that Nebraska was such a hard place to win- spread through the coaches then the team like a virus. There's some truth to the things Beck is saying of course. But there's also a ton of advantages at Nebraska. It's just a matter of what you want to focus on.

I think too that there was some disharmony on the staff. I don't get the impression Beck was free to do what he wanted, so he was always worrying about what Bo would want or think, instead of just coordinating the offense. Just my opinion.

Of course it is hard to win when you don't put much effort into recruiting. Nobody can win at the level that is expected at a program like Nebraska with the talent that they recruited. Which is why are are in the unemployment line or coaching at D2 schools now.

Recruiting may lose us games against the Alabamas and Ohio States. But our recruiting was better than Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan State. We lost those games because of coaching.

I do agree with you though that our recruiting could have been better. It's hard to sell a recruit on a school if you don't believe in the school yourself. I think that was a problem with Bo. He was an Ohio State guy and didn't seem to ever get that Ohio State doesn't hold Nebraska's jock, at least prior to the last couple coaching errors. Hell, we're all getting beaten down now after 15 years of mediocrity.

Well said.

This whole "it's so tough to win here" has gotten so pervasive as to be a poison. You think not being Florida ever stops or even crosses the minds of the team up at Minnesota or Northwestern?

Or Oregon State?

No...but those teams also don't win crap.

Minnesota and Northwestern have beaten us.....

OK I just read the article and let me start with a pet peeve of mine. Tim Beck quote "There was just a lot of offense. It was hard. And there were a lot of reasons for it — could be recruiting, could be weather. There were just a lot of different things"

If I hear that something was hard it better be a testimonial for Viagra not from a highly paid executive at my company. That said it sounds like Beck with his "no comment" is suggesting that Bo did not let him run his own show but when your show starts with a deep o-line, great receiving group, and a Heisman Hopeful you better find a way to be successful and not just lament that things were hard.

Had dinner last night with friends who are friends with our former coach and I got some interesting insight. They were defending their friend of course but in his defense spewed the following. He knew 2 years ago he would be fired (apparently Harvey did not hide this from him after TO left). SE made it clear that he was to do more with less (although the media reports that SE offered and provided more resources the claim is that he did not & that actually, anything outside of the department budget came out of coach's personal pocket- contentious argument). They also said SE cancelled the end of year banquet and they used that as a "what a douchebag" point. Other items gleaned from this conversation included the boosters were brutal, the fans don't get it and are stupid, the players are all about themselves and don't want to play hard or go to class, it's too hard to recruit here, blah blah blah. Basically, correlating every toxic issue that caused said coach to be fired. The Tim Beck article confirms that sentiment even more. The whole "now we know the truth" statement was our former coach telling all this to the players. He basically blamed everyone else but himself. What really makes me mad is that he was going to quit but decided to stay since they offered him more money and I quote "well if the dumb f**ks want to pay me $3 mil a year why would I leave?"

When they asked me what I thought our new head coach would bring that the former didn't, I replied, class and integrity. Amen!

So Bo paid for the 3 new recruiting assistants and the private jet usage out of his own pocket? Interesting.

Yeah, honestly. I'm starting to wonder what excuse Mr Penguin wouldn't make in his life.

Meh.....this sounds to me like the same old drivel that Bo has instilled since day one. He is God and everyone else is just an irritation. Nobody supports him and his program and he has to do everything. Nobody does anything of his players. They would all starve to death and have no clue what to do if he wasn't in their lives.

Time to move on.
