WR Coach Keith Williams Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

Can speak from experience (long, long ago - and it only took that one instance) that the breathalyzer variance is a real and common issue lawyers can question to get charges lessened. If it was blood tested levels there's not a lot of give, but breath there absolutely is.

Let's wait and see what additional info is shared, and what punishment he gets from NE as well as UNL before saying it's an abuse of power and dirty.

Yeah, I think people who took the police report and build up Williams into a monster with a lifelong alcohol problem he still can't control need to take a breath. It's a constructed image. Maybe it's accurate. Not necessarily.

Hopefully, the LPD are doing the right thing here. If it were a situation where the decision should be put far out of the reach of UNL, then I'd hope they would take that route. Perhaps it was close to that -- or perhaps not even that.

I just think things like this send the wrong message from a social standpoint. I just dont think the punishment is fitting the crime. We as a society put so much stress when wrongdoing is done and how horrible it is, until it is inconvenient for ourselves. This is why I was so extreme about my opinions last night. he's probably not getting canned, and I still think that is a mistake. But at the end of the day, this is the world we live in. Looking at the big picture, i just dont know how we expect ppl to make correct decisions, when consquences for the wrong decsions are almost non existant. Sure we can make Williams do all sorts of PR or community service or suspension etc, but will he actually feel the jolt of his wrongdoing? I dont think so and that is the point here. Both in this situation, and in the big picture of life and society. You really wanna educate the young men under his watch? Show them what happens when you behave like youre above the law and make really poor choices.

Fair points - I guess we'll have to see if he 'feels the jolt' as you say.

I'd think the pure scale of this incident and the ramifications to him, his reputation, his son, his family, the program, Mike Riley who put trust in him and gave him the opportunity of a lifetime, the impact to his current GA's, his current players, the recruits he's been building trust with, their parents, the University of Nebraska and the entire state ... should be a hell of a jolt.

Should every person who gets this kind of misdemeanor DUI charge get fired from whatever job they have? Jailed (for how long)? Or what?

I think it depends. I dont think it's too much to ask of a guy in his position, his pay, his stature, to require excellent behavior. With great privelege comes great demand. So i guess it depends on the job. Some bum at mcdonalds? probably not. School teacher? heh. whole 'nother ball game. 6 figure, high profile football coach? You know my opinion.
