Popular Post NM11046
I have been a fan of Mike Riley since he arrived. I can not imagine a better person to be at the helm of our football ship than this man as we deal with a very messy two years. Although he was getting a $hit ton of backlash in his first year he stayed committed, optimistic and focused on the team and his staff. I can not imagine what it took to stand at the front of a press room filled with angry fans after last years games, and he was professional and honest and expressed confidence in the team. He earned the trust of his team and it showed in the later part of last season. It has shown in recruiting and in the team's attitude and commitment this summer and throughout the start of this season. Dealing with the death of a team member, the passing of a great coach (one that he involved with the daily activities of the team without hesitation), the arrest of a well respected and high performing assistant, and now how he is handling the anthem situation. There is no better man to be leading this team or mentoring these young men than Mike Riley. He is the man I want representing Nebraska on Saturdays, on recruiting visits, at Big10 meetings, at press conferences and on what i think may be turning into a national stage with the current drama. It's about more than football and he is a great example for our state. On top of that, he has surrounded this team with strong leaders in the form of assistants, and, AND they're coaching well (and we're winning). When you do the right thing good things will come of it. Mike Riley is showing that by his example each day. We will win. And the men who are fortunate enough to be coached by him will take the lessons he has taught and those he has shown by example into every facet of their lives. 32 Quote Link to comment
teachercd
I like the guy but he kind of seems like 99% of coaches. Quote Link to comment
secretasianman
Good post and I agree 100%. It feels good to have a head coach that you can feel proud of. He answers questions so thoroughly and completely that it's tough to second guess his judgement. He reminds me of Coach Osborne in that regard. I think we all wanted a coach who was as proud of the program's rich traditions as all Nebraskans. This place is special and it's nice to see Coach Riley and his staff recognizing what makes this place unique. His life experience is apparent in his actions and he is the right fit for sure . 6 Quote Link to comment

I'm not sure I would have rated this very highly at the time Riley was hired, but having witnessed this staff's inclusion of all things Nebraska and gratitude for their positions, I'd now rate it as one of the biggest reasons I appreciate these coaches. And I think the thing is: you can't know how to "get back" to what Nebraska once was if you don't even know or appreciate what it once was. I couldn't be happier with this staff. 3 Quote Link to comment
Elf
I like Riley for all of the reasons listed above and I hope he continues winning so we can keep him around for a while. 3 Quote Link to comment
Lyons in the Sea of Red.
Great dude. Please win and don't put me through the personal dilemma of whether or not you should be fired. 5 Quote Link to comment
GBRHouston
I like him too, and I hope he retires with us. If we keep going the way we are going, he could turn into a big name coach in a few years. 3 Quote Link to comment
chainsaw
I had no idea who he was when he was hired but the first day he spoke, i started to pay attention. Now, i can't imagine who we could have hired that would have fit our program and our state better then MR! 5 Quote Link to comment
BoNeyard
I feel ashamed i was so against the hire and his first season. Since things started turning around last year he has won me over in more ways then one. I knew he was a great guy and the whole 'nice guy' deal with his years at Oregon State. Riley is showing that he is a good football coach, and can win games when given the talent and resources, but most of all Riley has proven throughout his career that is a great man. GBR and Go Coach Riley. 3 Quote Link to comment

I have a folder of screenshots of everyone thinking he was essentially a laughingstock, and most of us had hardly any idea who he even was. 2 Quote Link to comment

He has a jar full of all of his toenail clippings. 6 Quote Link to comment
GBRHouston
If we told someone from exactly a year ago that a thread like this would exist today, they would think we were mentally insane, and probably that MR wouldn't even be the coach right now. I wanted him, or at least his coordinators, gone after the Purdue game last year. I am glad that I was wrong, and I think we all can agree. 1 Quote Link to comment
HuskerMav11
Easy to support your coach when he is winning. Let's see what happens when he drops a few games. 3 Quote Link to comment
