According to clouse his name is in the transfer database and he has spoken with Frost and advised him he will begin looking around.

Definitely a wise move if he's looking to get playing time. Martinez is a lock for at least the next two seasons (barring injury) and they'll have decent depth with Vedral and McCaffrey.

What a shame!  I thought this system fit him better than Riley's.  I hope he does well in his future endeavors.

I agree, it most likely does, but I'm sure he saw that his chance of playing was quickly fading. Martinez, Vedral, McCaffrey, etc...

I wish him the best.

Good luck to the Nebraska kid, hope he gets to play wherever he ends up.  Lots of heart but he won't be able to beat out what we have in front of him currently or who we have coming in.

hes from Tennessee isnt he?

I think he had family that played for DONU.

I thought his grandpa helped build memorial stadium or something. Maybe I am making crap up and had too many cups of coffee this AM.

I think you're both right.  His dad was a walkon here.  And i thought i did hear about an older family member helping to build the stadium.

Really disappointing. Just goes to show the character of some kids these days not being interested in anything other than themselves and their own success. Whatever happened to sacrifice, hard work, and commitment to something bigger than you?

Why you gotta be "that guy"?

Obviously.  But why?

I thought it was interesting how thus far there was no criticism of Bunch, and thought I could make fun of it and also maybe prevent some further legitimate criticism by sarcastically referencing it early and making anyone that comes after think twice about actually holding thoughts like those.

Oh I know.  (I got a chuckle out of it, if I'm being honest)

I think the difference is that Gebbia stands a good chance at being a P5 starting quarterback, and Bunch not so much.

Does this mean that any current back-up quarterback should start looking for a less-competitive school where he can start? And that the second and third stringers willing to hang around have accepted their mediocrity?

Guess it didn't work

I think Bunch showed he could play (maybe not P5), and it's hard to fault a kid for wanting to play. It's also one thing to stick around when you're the backup, and another to stick around when you're third-string and an out-of-state walk on - you're not one play away anymore. It's not like other positions where you can work your way into a rotation or play special teams, if you know you're not going to play there aren't a lot of reasons to stick around.

He could also feel he earned a scholarship, the general rule of thumb is if you're on the 2-deep you've probably earned it. He was only the backup because of a transfer and Vedral's eligiblity status, but still. I don't know if that factors in at all, but being a walk on behind 2 guys in the class below yours sure does. Best of luck to him, this season could've been a lot uglier without Bunch.

That would mean there's no good reason for a competent quarterback to back-up Adrian Martinez for the next three years.

It might have been scarier but I don't see how it could've been uglier. We lost both games where he got snaps before the game was over.

I agree for the most part. Vedral is unique because he's a Nebraska kid, so he's probably ok being the backup for the rest of his career - with how we run the QB and ideally a lot of blowout wins, the 2nd string will play. Very few good QBs would do that, and I don't think any would stay as 3rd string. McCaffrey, Smothers, and anyone else we recruit won't be behind him their entire careers like Bunch/Vedral are. McCaffrey redshirts year 1, then is a backup years 2 and 3 and in position to start the next two. Who knows if that's how it works out, but he has a path to playing time that Bunch doesn't

As embarrassing as losing to Troy at home is, they might have shut us out without Bunch. Record-wise we're probably the same with or without him, but he also saved Martinez some hits against Michigan - maybe Martinez gets hurt again if he had to stay in, who knows. Probably would've been the same amount of ugly, but I could see it going much worse.

Bunch leaving was a given........if AM is that good, he will skip his Sr. year and head for the NFL......McCaffrey will be next man up.

And if not him, Smothers.....and if not him Garcia...if not him Mix......etc.

Because 75% of the board got mad that Gebbia transferred yet no one is getting mad about bunch.  What's wrong with pointing out a double standard?

Played out a season vs left 5 days before the first game. :dunno

I learned to mute the bi-weekly reminder of how horrible Nebraska fans are and how great Iowa is.
