Maurice Washington Faces Charges

The more Mo indicates he is willing to "lawyer up", fight this and drag it out then the more likely CA will not pursue it or will cut a deal.  Unfortunately CA has unlimited funds if they do want to make an example of Mo.  If Frost suspended Mo indefinitely until the case was resolved that would negatively impact Mo's defense, IMO.

You know they don't announce all punishments with a press release. C'mon.

Then why did you say they might have?

Not having a press release or press conference to explain the punishment is part of why this is ham-fisted. They've left the interpretation of what and why to the press and public, so now they're going to be subjected to all sorts of guesses as to the what and why. I'm guessing that they'll end up needing to come out and make a statement about it anyway.

Who cares if people are ripping Frost and Nebraska. If this gets dropped to a misdeminor those people will end up looking stupid. Frost and Nebraska actually know more about the case than anyone giving their hot takes so I'll trust that they come out looking like the smart ones given they have more information. Regardless, they did not do what @RedDenver suggested, and maybe they should have. Come out with a press release saying Maurice will be suspended x amount of time because of his misconduct sending the video to the girl. They never did that.

Since you asked I’d prefer Frost and Nebraska not put themselves into a situation like this where they get ripped.

And you say we don’t know all the facts. Well, the document cloud of the victims statement is easily findable online. I invite you to read it. It’s pretty easy, in my opinion, to read it and decide that you at minimum think Maurice Washington shouldn’t represent the university until it’s solved.

But anyway, hot takes and such.

Question to all of you who feel he should be suspended indefinitely, kicked off the team, etc.

Read the scenario below, insert yourself into it and answer the question following:

At a place you work at, a fellow employee goes to the police and claims you assaulted them.  Charges are filed based on this claim and evidence of you and the employee having not so great interactions in the past.  You are arrested (not at work).  A court date is set for 2 months in the future.

Should you be fired from your job?

In some instances, people are put on leave until it's sorted out.  Which would be the same as a suspension, wouldn't it?

Your employer should conduct an investigation and then determine if you and/or the fellow employee should be fired.

Because they might have.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You don't know if they did or didn't. Neither do I.  So claiming this or that doesn't get anyone anywhere.

I'm going to sit back, relax, remain calm & wait for this to play out.

Wut? You're both claiming the university might have come out with a press release and that they don't have press releases for punishments. Either there's a press release or there isn't.

One of the boys who was actually in the video and distributed it to the entire school only got probation.

Why would a kid who wasn't in the video, and only sent it to a single person (who was in the video) be held to a more harsh sentence?

Not condoning his actions, just asking for the sake of punishments...

I doubt it and if someone asks them if the 1/2 game suspension was for the CA case or weed they'll probably say no comment.  If they are asked about Mo's status it will be the same answer they've given which is that the legal process needs to play out before any decisions are made.  I think it's obvious at this time that nobody, including Mo's lawyers know how the legal case will turn out.

This is correct.

And, even if convicted, or he pleas, it could be dropped to a misdemeanor. Meaning you suspend a player for a season for something he's going to get probation for.

The flip side is, this goes to trial, it's a landmark case, and Washington is convicted on felony charges, and receives jail time. And at that point it all hits the fan.

Weird times.

Ya , but I imagine if Mo's lawyers felt that this was going to be a landmark case there'd be discussion between Mo's attorneys and NU and NU could make a decision at that point based on "new details" or some PR spin.

I've read it and I don't think that. In fact, I think that is ridiculous. I think its pretty easy to read the statement along with all of the other information available and decide on an appropriate punishment though. In my opinion this should not be a felony and if it were a misdeminor no one would be saying anything about Frost and Nebraska right now. But its an easy story to sensationalize because you can put 'child pornography' in your headline.
