Stadium Expansion

Recommended Posts

Elevator worker that is working on new addition told me that things are stacking up a bit and that total project is behind schedule. How this will relate to opening day, I am not sure? I would think they will go on a 24 hr a day, multi-shift, additional workers type effort to accomplish everything so all would be good to go by then. That's the word I got though, anyone else hear they are behind schedule?

Usually when jobs like this with a strict timeline and such, they will bring in union workers under contract and such to get it done in time. It'll be done in time one way or another.

i dont think i have been on many jobs where the general contractor wasnt telling the sub-contractors they were behind. and i highly doubt the completion date was anywhere close to the first game.

^^^ what he said. I'm sure even if being behind schedule, they've got plenty of cushion until the first game. Even if not, I'm sure they would appropriate their focus to the areas needed in order to host fans for a game, not necessarily all of the labs and offices and etc.

I talk to a guy working on the stadium. Last time we talked about the time frame, some months ago, they were nearly 90 days ahead of schedule. With 2011/2012's mild winter they got a LOT of work done they weren't anticipating getting done, and that flowed through into winter 2012/2013, which was also quite mild.

I can't imagine what would have happened in the past month or so to put them behind schedule.

Does anyone know if they'll be offering tours of the East Stadium or if the East concourse will be open to all ticket holders on gameday? I seem to remember last year they opened all concourses into the East, is this correct? When I was in school we had to sneak people into the East stadium and couldn't get access to other parts of the stadium without a ticket matching the applicable gate.

It'd be great to be able to actually experience the additions! Anyway, thankful for this thread and your pics everyone. Missing some of "The Good Life."

Knapplc, not sure what if anything has happened. Just repeating what the elevator guy told me. Maybe the guy you spoke to was one of the ones who had a large portion of the job to do and their part was 90 days ahead. I don't know, maybe the elevator guys elevator isn't reaching his top floor, just repeating what he told me. Like the others stated, they probably had a completion date far enough in advance to allow for some cushion? Let's hope! On another note, does anyone know when the arena completion date was set for and if they are on schedule?

Something I've learned about the construction company. If you talk to 5 different workers from five different sub contractors, you are going to get 5 different stories on how the job is going.

AND, those stories are going to be different than management's story.

UNL came out with that Video for the spring game and said they would have it finished with doors open in mid July. Even if it gets delayed a month... the first game isn't until the first weekend in September so we have a good 6 weeks cushion if need be.

So I looked on my account on huskers.com and it looks like our seats have been moved over to the new section on the east side almost at the top but we are excited! Has there been a drawing of what the insides of the new addition will look like? I am assuming there will be new bathrooms and concession stands in there for the people even clear up high like myself. Will there be escalators etc to get people in and out? Hopefully the access will be better than it is for the north stadium up high!

Where did you look to find this info? I logged into my account and couldn't even find that I have seats this year.

You have to log into your account and then from there it was wierd to actually find it. I clicked on renew my donation and it showed what I had paid in terms of the donation and below it showed my seats, which were different from what they had been so I looked where they were and they were part of the new section. I just checked before writing back and I cannot find it again either. I really wish huskers.com and your account information was easier to access information it seems hard to find information on that site IMO.

I also noticed last week that my tix were moved and noticed the info went missing. (I'm guessing it wasn't supposed to be showing officially yet). Good news is it looks like the tickets are showing again! If it helps any, I've been using the donor website instead of logging into huskers.com first.

For what it's worth, letters to new season ticket holders, and current ones with upgrades went out this past week.

That is correct. We just got our season ticket confirmation letter in the mail 2 days ago. After 20 plus years of our family going to a game here or there, we finally decided to go all in to get season tickets this year. To say we are just a bit excited would be a major understatement. I for one can't wait to see what that new East Stadium addition will look like when it's filled to capacity the night we kickoff against Wyoming.

As of today, my confirmation letter didn't arrive. Yet, my account shows that I've been moved. So, I called the ticket office and they confirmed I'm indeed moved. I live in Lincoln too! Stupid postal service! :-) Anyways, I'm pumped! Anxious for the first game already! :-)

How do they apply numbers and letters on field turf?

The reason I ask is because if you look at the Husky Stadium cam for their stadium renovation they are laying the new field turf in. I saw yesterday they dragged the big "HUSKIES" letter by letter into the endzone. I would have thought these were painted onto the field. You can see the Pac 12 logos and mid field logo just laying in a random area right now. Click on the Husky Stadium Camera #3 to see what I mean. You can even click on June 7 and see the end zone letters overlapping each other.

I saw a video once (I think of TCF Bank Stadium up here) that showed the process. Its pretty much the way you think it is after seeing the letters like that. I will look to find it.

Update: Here is a video of Husky Stadium turf going in.

They lay out large pre-cut pieces and then cut out sections, for the letters logos and such and lay them in. I have also seen painted on.

I will plan to visit all BIG conference stadiums except Penn St, Rutgers and Terps (too far away) via my car.

Previous "tours" or live games: Rose Bowl, LA Coliseum, Cotton Bowl, Big House, Kinnick (Iowa), Gaylord (OU), Lewis (OkieLite), Jones (TTech), both Kansas schools, Trice (ISU) and Notre Dame.

The most disappointment, Rose Bowl and Notre Dame....all traditions, structures was crappy. Also Cotton Bowl.....basically falling a part and dirty.

Surprise stadium IMO, Big House. In 1980 or so before press box expansion, all submerged except a few top row seats above ground level. In fact, I searched Ann Harbor campus and I said "where's the stadium?". Finally found it, kinda disguised, btw, no parking lots outside the stadium but BIG stadium! Alternate stadium..... "Big Hole". Kinnick was also semi-submerged, I think.

My review......In Memorial stadium, west and east(now) stadiums was pretty damn good but north and south......eye sores. Next project, need to replace it.....like 2-deck structure.
