Blackshirtsguru
Did you guys just see the 15 yard celebration penalty against KSU? KSU scored with a minute to go and the WR saluted the crowd. He got tossed a 15 yard flag for excessive celebration. With that, the refs tacked on 15 yards on the two point conversion for the potential tie. Needless to say they didn't get it. I thought this call was friggen rediculous and I don't even like KSU but man they got screwed! Making a gesture towards the crowd is supposed to be called for the penalty. The official did his job, the player did not. Turn and hand the ball to the ref and nothing happens. And Crick throwing the bones to the crowd after a sack is not grounds for a flag then? See how damn dumb these celebration flags are getting???!!! Quote Link to comment
suh_fan93
After almost every tackle during the game, the defensive player was shaking his fist, running around, doing chest bumps. One "Cuse defender hurt himself after a pass break up doing a little dance. No flags on any of those plays. The inconsistency of the application of the rule is what I find puzzling. It's a game. let the guys play. On the other hand, make the tackle, don't celebrate. It's what you're supposed to do on defense. I totally agree. It seems to be ok to do if you're on defense. You always see defensive guys celebrating after a big stop. Always. You NEVER see any flags thrown... Quote Link to comment
huskersrule95
It is such a touchy subject because it is such a subjective decision. Sometimes it gets called for almost nothing, sometimes it doesn't get called for much more. I really don't like the call especially at the point of the game it was. The player still made a bonehead decsion by doing it. Like it was said before, just give the ball to the ref and get ready for the 2 point conversion attempt. Don't give the ref a chance to call that. Quote Link to comment

Remember next year I believe the TD gets taken off the board. The player will never do that again. Only if the celebration is before the goalline. This one wasn't. Quote Link to comment
Frederick0220
So, how is kneeling down and crossing yourself or pointing to the sky or "throwing the bones" or "hook 'em horns' or forming an "O" with your fingers or crazy running down the field or a number of other celebrations, not 'calling attention to yourself'? Do the rules specifically state 'saluting'? This. What a garbage call. Quote Link to comment
3rd and long
I didn't see the play so I can't comment on this particular instance. But all in all, I love the rule. I'm so sick of watching these guys showboat in the endzone. Act professional and like you've done it before. Hand the ball to the ref, high five or chest bump with your teammates (who by the way, probably are also responsible for you being in the end zone) and go back to the sideline. Everyone should have to watch a highlight film of Walter Payton and how classy he was on the field, espically after he scored. And yes, I am a crotchety old (well, maybe middle aged)fart. It is just that simple. How does a player NOT get excited after scoring a TD in the final minute to give his team a chance to tie. This is competitive sports. Guys like Walter Paton, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Barry Sanders and so many others seemed to be able to pull it off on a consistant basis. The last things any sport needs are more Terrell Owens, Chad Johnson, and other like them. Quote Link to comment

Just watched the play. He really didn't do anything wrong. Just a little salute and that was it. Ive seen celebrations (including today) that were MUCH MUCH worse not be called. Nebraska included. Terrible terrible call. I wonder if the LSU player who did the heisman pose earlier this year got a penalty... And I love seeing Brett Favre running down the field with his hands raised and then jumping and tackling his receivers. Some celebrations are awesome! But like the guy above me said, I could live without Chad Ochocinco and Terrelle Owens. Quote Link to comment

The kid did nothing wrong. Plain and simple. He didn't take a cheerleader's pompoms, or pull out a sharpie and sign the ball, or pour popcorn into his helmet, or do an elaborate dance... Come on with that nonsense. Quote Link to comment
PaulCrewe
The best part about the whole play was the player who did it. Yep, good old former commit Adrian Hilbourn. The curse of the decommit continues. Quote Link to comment
gobiggergoredder
Against the rules....yep. Worthy of a flag...yep. Should be called with just over a minute left and decide the game...absolute garbage. I can't stand K-State, but sometimes you look the other way. A one second salute had zero effect on the game. Come on with that nonsense. Score - turn - hand the ball to the ref. Did he do that? Nope! Therefore what he did was hotdogging it and he should have been flagged for it. That's it and that's all there is to it. The hotdogging starts small then grows out of control. Nipping it at the bud before it can spread is the correct way of calling a game. The nonsense is thinking his actions were okay. Enough of that wrongness. Quote Link to comment
In the Deed the Glory
Tennessee player just stared at the crowd and did the "Aaron Rodgers championship belt" routine. No flag, ref within 2 feet of him when he did it. Now UNC receiver made a motion to the crowd, no flag. KSU got screwed, and if you deny it you are only fooling yourself. Quote Link to comment
