Yeah for MONEY, this isn't the same type of situation. Unless those were million dollar roses he sent to her funeral...

Tuisosopoo is the first non-profit scammer.

Seriously though, it started to unravel when Lennay asked for teos checking account #

When or where is the proof that was said?

Actually these catfishing scams are rarely about money. They're about very sick and very insecure people who get off by creating an alternate persona and f'ing with someone else's life, often someone they know and admire.

I'm actually beginning to believe Te'o's account, which still makes him look like an idiot.

Knowing he was about to look like an idiot I can see why he kept kicking the lie down the road. It could not possibly end well, although I'm already starting to lose interest and betting he gets drafted a few spots lower than he would have and goes on to have a short mediocre NFL career based on his limited abilities and not his rather pathetic understanding of how boys and girls work.

Proof? The evidence is that it appeared in the media accounts on Friday. http://sports.yahoo....454--ncaaf.html It was in "The Call" that took place Dec 6th. Teo did not bite on that one.

Some are claiming that Teo must be the stupidest person alive because he fell for a scam, but apparently without handing over money. I refer those people to the latest espn film on broke athletes and what scams [giant tomatoes] tricked them out of their salaries.

Joe, you believe that crock? There's so many obvious lies there, it's outrageous. Like not going to see someone dying. If her didn't affect him that much, that's fine. But before she called, he had no problem using her death for this girl he said he wasn't dating or had met now and made it to where he was a heartbroken hero. But if he cared at all, at ALL then before the call, he would have flown to see her and the funeral. That's how you know he's being deceptive still. And people want to believe an off camera espn interview... LOL

The only crock of sh#t worth worrying about was put out by deadspin who wanted to us to believe that Manti Teo invented a girlfriend so she could die and he'd win the Heisman. We know now that was just a dream of Deadspin's Burke. Nit picking over what the scam victim should have known onwhat point in time is trivial so each side can claim they were right about something.

Notre Dame Joe,

You do realize that you're buying the Te'o agent/PR team angle and completely ignoring the factual inconsistencies and blatant contradictions of information that all point to Manti knowing what's going on and actively using the story to his advantage? The Deadspin article doesn't make any claims whatsoever; it simply presents a detailed factual account of the missing data. Manti himself provided the missing data points through interviews and statements over the course of the season. We have the internet now; we can look back on social media activity, find all sorts of quotes and statements made by individuals over the past year, and so on.

We aren't stupid. We can look at the puzzle pieces on the table and put them together for ourselves. Manti might be a good football player, but at the very least he's a horribly scummy and really dumb person. At the worst, he's a manipulative scammer.

ESPN isn't helping; like I said - anything that helps ESPN show up a competitor and produce yet another heartstring-pulling story is great for them. Lob Manti some softballs on a Friday night, claim that he's answered all questions cooperatively (despite Manti's handlers not allowing video recording and only releasing 1.5 minutes of heavily edited audio) and then just keep playing that victim card, as if the entire blogosphere and twitterverse are total moronic sheep.

Richard Deitsch saw right through your BS, Te'o & ESPN, and he's about the sharpest media guy out there.

Well, I'm not buying in 100% into Te'o being completely uninvolved. Be honest. They took 3 days to meet with lawyers and advisors and espn and such to make sure they had their p's and q's in order to attack this. Not saying he was completely involved, but he used it to his advantage. The pub' meant more than the girl did. He played off it to it's fullest extent.

Actively using to his advantage, yes. Knowing what was going on? How's that?

Again, this isn't really in defense of Te'o either. Because while making up a girl who dies from cancer for publicity is strange, sad, and dumb, heavily playing up the death of what he belied to be an actual cancer-stricken lady friend is a different kind of wow.

And of course, Manti awkwardly sitting on the information as long as he did, and Notre Dame sitting on the information because of the coming title game.....

Deadspin had an anonymous friend who was 80% sure that Teo was behind it. Then Burke ran wild with that. He obviously sneers at Notre Dame so much that Burke wanted it to that way. Thank God the truth came out in 48 hours, even though that's an eternity in internet time.

Jack Swarbrick also hired a private investigator firm to look into into it in the last week of December. They reportedly had access to all of Teo's phone and internet records. They would have had to really drop the ball if Teo was behind it.
