Greatest QB

Recommended Posts

If the only two games someone ever watched Tommy Armstrong play in were the two against Purdue, what would their takeaway be?

Jamal Lord.

And everyone know Ryker Fyfe is already the greatest NU qb ever. Just like Frankie London, Curt Dukes, Harrison Beck, Brion Carnes, and Cody Green.

Maybe Traci Lords

What kind of Nebraska quarterback didn't cringe when he threw a pass? Making me cringe when he drops back to pass is a hallmark of Nebraska football.

I bolded the years where the QB had a good completion percentage, or at least a pretty good TD/INT ratio. I may have missed something, and I may have ganked up the formatting a bit. I typed this all, so if something's wrong that's probably on my end.

I think this illustrates the point that, over the past 45 years and 50+ quarterbacks at Nebraska, maybe one third has been "good" when they drop back to pass.

Interesting to me:

1995 - Tommie Frasier: 1362 yds passing 17 TD/4 Int. 604 yds rushing. 6.2 YPC 14 TD

1989 - Gerry Gdowski: 1326 yds passing 19 TD/2 Int. 925 yds rushing. 7.9 YPC 13 TD

I remember a lot of griping in 1988 that Gdowski wasn't starting in place of Steve Taylor. Of course, I'm from Fremont and Gdowski had just taken Fremont to the State finals against Creighton Prep the year before, so that may have been a local bias.

Zac Taylor was a coach on the field as well. He & Ganz are the best since Crouch - both blue collar guys who were leaders and showed great character (Ganz for having to sit behind Keller when he should have been starting and Taylor for overcoming the D weakness and BC's play calling).
