30 For 30 to feature the 1994-1995 Huskers

Look guys, only an overly self-conscious Hurricane fan would come on to a Husker message board and start this type of argument. You're enabling him - like an addict.

This argument as to who was the "best college team" ever has been rehashed time and again over the years by objective analysts and fans, and more often than not, the '95 team takes the gold.

Let's not forget, either, that Nebraska beat four top 10 teams in '95 (Miami only beat... drum roll please....) ONE! Nebraska's closest victory? 14 points. Miami's? Two.

This is actually an intriguing question. 1990s college football was really brutal, and the 1995 Blackshirts were among the most vicious hitters of that decade.

Ken Dorsey was a statue, finishing his college career with -79 rushing yards on 59 attempts. He would have been an immobile target for the Blackshirts, if we were to play that mythical game between 2001 Miami & 1995 Nebraska.

That begs the question - whose hit would have knocked Dorsey from the game?

Terrell Farley?

Mike Minter?

Grant Wistrom?

Jay Foreman?

Jared Tomich?

Eric Warfield?

Jason Peter?

Never heard of those guys. Are those the secondary.

Here's another question, you would rather have the blackshirts over the miami secondary?

Reed and Taylor would take their spots day 1!

You honestly have no idea who was in our secondary that year, do you? Admit it.

Then, after you admit it, go look up who it was. Go ahead, we'll wait.

Your boy Ken Dorsey was a good quarterback. I'm not going to lie and tell you different. He could hit his spots, read a defense. He threw for something over 9,000 yards in his career in the ACC. He was good.

But you know who was better?

Danny Wuerffel. He threw for more than 10,000 yards in his career in the SEC, which even in the mid-90s was better top-to-bottom than the ACC.

Guess how many TDs Wuerffel threw in that championship game against that secondary? Here's a hint - one. That's the same number of pick-sixes he threw against that secondary. And he was better than Dorsey.

Don't forget, Dorsey didn't even play in the ACC. He played in the craptastic Big East.

Miami played 1 team ranked in the top 10 at game time, none during the regular season (ironically Miami's only top 10 opponent was NU in the Rose Bowl) Nebraska played 4, average score 49.0 - 18.2, only one of the games was played in Lincoln.

Miami played 1 team ranked in top 10 in final polls (again Nebraska) Miami 37-14

Nebraska played 4, average score 49.0 - 18.2, only one of the games was played in Lincoln.

Miami didn't score an offensive TD vs a Boston College team that finished 8-4, winning by 11, and only beat an 8-4 V. Tech team by 2.

Nebraska's closest game was 35-21 vs Washington St., NU led 20-7 at the half and 28-7 starting the 4th Q. That was the only game within 23 points.

Miami played 2 teams that won 10 or more games

Nebraska played 4

Edjerrin james> lawrence phillips

I might even take Willis Mcgahee

Strong chance LP wins the Heisman in '95 had he not been suspended from the team. He was off to an incredible start, averaging 11 YPC and scored six touchdowns in the first two games.

Anyone who thinks James is better than LP is either too young to have ever seen LP play, has orange-tinted glasses on or both. LP would've blown James college career stats out of the water had he been given a similar number of attempts. Despite carrying the ball 48 less times in his college career, LP had a higher career YPC, two fewer touchdowns and only 183 fewer total rush yards. He easily surpasses those with 48 more carries his final year.
