the ring has 12-0 on it. they erased some of the history from last season.

The side with the 12-0 has all the rivalry trophies from the season on it, but the other side has their helmet and another trophy and I can't figure out what it is. Any ideas?

I'm happy to take a Division Trophy home, and it's great that players get Rose Bowl jersey and etc. But celebrating an embarassing loss is just silly.

Completely agree, however it also show what level Iowa is at - they hit a high point for the last 50 years (and were happy finishing second). Fortunately, we have had greater success in that time frame - just need to get back into the tier 1 programs soon so that we don't ever have thoughts of being at the level of Iowa.

It all depends on how wide your timeline lens is.

All-time? No question, we're leaps and bounds above.

Last 50 years? Same answer, there's no comparison.

Last 25 years? Possibly even moreso dominant and superior.

Last 10 years? Iowa's been the better program, and it doesn't hurt anyone to admit.

We've been having this conversation for a while about Iowa, and there was a 10-year stretch where Iowa's record was better than ours, but that's only been one, very specific stretch of time.

In the past decade, 2006-2015, Nebraska's played a tougher schedule and had more wins than Iowa.

Records

Iowa: 78-51 (.605 winning percentage)

Nebraska: 86-47 (.647 winning percentage)

Average Strength of Schedule (Sagarin)

Iowa: 49.5

Nebraska: 39.5

Iowa played a tougher schedule than Nebraska in 2006, 2009, 2013, and 2014. Nebraska's schedule was tougher in 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2015. Their SOS was about the same in 2014 & 2015, (NE 61, IA 60; NE 49, IA 52). Since Nebraska joined the Big Ten (2011), Nebraska's average SOS has been 42.2. Iowa's has been 46.6.

Losing Seasons

Iowa: two (2006 & 2012). They went 6-6 in 2007.

Nebraska: two (2007 & 2015)

Nebraska won nine or more games each of the other eight years, with 10 wins in 2009, 2010 & 2012. Iowa won nine or more games three times, with 11 wins in 2009 and 12 wins in 2015. Nebraska did not win more than 10 games in the past decade (not since 2001). Iowa had seven seasons in which they won eight or fewer games.

The decade where Iowa compares most favorably to Nebraska is 2002 - 2011. Iowa had 85 wins to Nebraska's 82, and 42 losses to Nebraska's 48. Iowa's win percentage was .669 to Nebraska's .631. Each team had five years where their SOS was tougher than the other's (Iowa: 2003-2006 & 2009; NU: 2002, 2007, 2008, 2010, & 2011).

Of note - 2002-2011 is the only ten-year stretch where Iowa has more wins than Nebraska in the past 50 years.

Iowa has had a higher ceiling than Nebraska in the past decade, winning 11 games in 2009 and 12 games in 2015, whereas Nebraska hasn't won more than 10 games in that span (three times). That's about the best you can say for Iowa for the past decade.

It's also worth noting that Iowa has had the same head coach and been in the same conference over that decade - a conference it's been in for over 100 years. Nebraska has switched conferences in the past ten years and is on their third coaching staff. Despite this, Nebraska continues to have better results on the field than Iowa.

That about sums up the two programs - most telling is they are content with their trajectory after being in the familiar surrounds for many decades. NU on the other hand, feels that the results of the past 10-15 years are not consistent with the tradition of the N on their jerseys.

It's looks like Purdue was the bottom and we may see the needle rise quickly!!!
