The General Election

Recommended Posts

Bonhoeffer is a hero in my book. I recently purchased this biography on him and I'm looking forward to reading it.

Regarding the quote, it reminds me of the following:

Proverbs 23:9

Don't waste your breath on fools, for they will despise the wisest advice.

Proverbs 9:8

So don't bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you.

A little Bible Study on 'The Fool'

Here is a discussion on fools from Prov 26. Note it also has a verse about thinking one is wise when one is not

(high lighted in bold). Thus the need to be aware of puffed up heads when we think we are right. Knowledge can puff up the head, but only compassion and love can make a bigger heart.

Proverbs 26Easy-to-Read Version (ERV) (copied in part here)

Wise Sayings About Fools

26 Just as snow should not fall in summer, nor rain at harvest time, so people should not honor a fool.

2 Don’t worry when someone curses you for no reason. Nothing bad will happen. Such words are like birds that fly past and never stop.

3 You have to whip a horse, you have to put a bridle on a mule, and you have to beat a fool.

4-5 There is no good way to answer fools when they say something stupid. If you answer them, then you, too, will look like a fool. If you don’t answer them, they will think they are smart.

6 Never let a fool carry your message. If you do, it will be like cutting off your own feet. You are only asking for trouble.

7 A fool trying to say something wise is like a crippled person trying to walk.

8 Showing honor to a fool is as bad as tying a rock in a sling.

9 A fool trying to say something wise is like a drunk trying to pick a thorn out of his hand.

10 Hiring a fool or a stranger who is just passing by is dangerous—you don’t know who might get hurt.

11 Like a dog that returns to its vomit, a fool does the same foolish things again and again.

12 People who think they are wise when they are not are worse than fools.

13 A person who is lazy and wants to stay home says, “What if there is a lion out there? Really, there might be a lion in the street!”

14 Like a door on its hinges, a lazy man turns back and forth on his bed.

15 Lazy people are too lazy to lift the food from their plate to their mouth.

16 Lazy people think they are seven times smarter than the people who really have good sense.

17 To step between two people arguing is as foolish as going out into the street and grabbing a stray dog by the ears.

18-19 Anyone who would trick someone and then say, “I was only joking” is like a fool who shoots flaming arrows into the air and accidentally kills someone.

The press (the "liberal press" as our Conservative friends like to call it) are complicit in Trump's election. They treat him very, very differently than they treated Clinton. Case in point - the way they covered the Clinton email story released by Comey just before the election compared to an actual REAL news story about Trump's Russian connections. This is inexcusable.

As soon as that first side by side photo showed up I immediately wanted the media to plaster it everywhere. Because... no one should give a crap - it's in a heavy Democrat area - but I knew Trump would be a dumb ass about it.

Any rational person in his place would have either said nothing, or said a one liner like: "If I held the inauguration in a place where I won the vote like Wisconsin..." or "if I held the inaguration in a place with 95% Republicans..."

And that would have been the end of it. Who the hell cares how many people showed up? Clearly Obama drew a lot of people because his was a more historical event due to his being the first Black president.

He can't let it go

Honestly though - what else can he talk to them about? He has no clue what his role is, and if someone isn't moving the pieces for him behind the scenes he has no idea on topics to discuss, who is his nominee for what etc. He doesn't know typically who is in front of him (which I think is why they herd his interns round to clap) or what their job is.

The only thing he knows about is ratings and how big crowds look. That's all we're going to hear from him for 4 years. Anytime policy is brought up we'll see him tied to a teleprompter like his inaugural speech where someone else has obviously written it for him. Otherwise it's all the charming things we're already used to. Magazine covers, successful businesses, beautiful kids and women, big houses (the biggest) etc.

That's actually pretty funny when it reminded me that he tweeted out a picture of him "writing the speech". He probably was so insecure that someone else was writing it for him that he needed to make sure everyone thought he did it.
