Trump and the Press

Recommended Posts

I think we forget that no other President in American history has lived so willfully and unfiltered in the public eye.

You can throw out everything the press has said about Donald Trump and judge him simply by:

1) His tweets

2) His autobiography

3) His business record (including lawsuits)

The dude is a buffoon.

And I'm pretty sure when it's all over and done, even the people who knew and liked Donald Trump will admit that the man should never have been President.

Some speculation that the anonymous op-ed might be Pence, or at least someone trying to make it look like Pence.

The unidentified author singles out the late Arizona Sen. John McCain as “a lodestar for restoring honor to public life and our national dialogue.”

The word ― which Merriam-Webster defines as either “a star that leads or guides” or a person who “serves as an inspiration, model, or guide” ― isn’t that commonly used. But Pence apparently says it a lot, according to this mash-up posted on Twitter:

Yeah, there's absolutely no way this was Pence.

He's got everything to lose and nothing to gain from going on record like this. Besides, he probably hates most mainstream media sources just as much as Trump, he's just not an ignorant buffoon about it.

Trump finds out this is Pence, he asks him (asks is probably putting it nicely) to resign as his VP. He can't force him to do it, but he can throw Pence under the bus as a traitor and make his life a living hell. He can poison any attempt on the part of Pence to primary him in 2020 by burying him with the base. Then all the crap Pence has sat through and pretended he didn't see or hear because he was dreaming of the sweet day he inherited the Oval when Donald was forced out is all for naught. He wouldn't get the payoff.

Besides all of that, Pence has absolutely no spine. Anyone who did would have bailed during one of countless opportunities thus far. He's a shameless opportunist.

According to a New York Times op-ed from an anonymous senior official in Donald Trump’s administration, that question has already come up — and one possible solution was discussed. “There were early whispers within the cabinet,” the official writes, “of invoking the 25th Amendment.”

Specifically, that’s Section 4 of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution. The amendment states that if, for whatever reason, the vice president and a majority of sitting Cabinet secretaries decide that the president is “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office,” they can simply put that down in writing and send it to two people — the speaker of the House and the Senate’s president pro tem.

Then the vice president would immediately become “Acting President,” and take over all the president’s powers.

Let that sink in — one vice president and any eight Cabinet officers can, theoretically, decide to knock the president out of power at any time.

If the president wants to dispute this move, he can, but then it would be up to Congress to settle the matter with a vote. A two-thirds majority in both houses would be necessary to keep the vice president in charge. If that threshold isn’t reached, the president would regain his powers.

I realize it would be hard, because they would have to talk to each other. But if there are enough officials against Trump, they should take action.

It's easy to get giddy about a high-level insider willing to confirm our worst fears about Trump, and possibly a rear-guard coup that could depose him.

But whoever these people are, they support the retrograde and increasingly un-Democratic actions of the mainline GOP. They just don't like having this vindictive and ill-informed child running the show and spoiling the brand.

By not coming out publicly, they remain cowards, and their anonymity actually feeds everything stupid and dangerous about this president.

This is a great read that gives a glimmer of hope.

Wouldnt it it be funny if this were written by Sarah Sanders and she is part is the Stable State?

There is a link to the op-ed in the article. It’s a must read.

This is going to push Trump over the edge and into Amendment 25 territory.   He'll be going nutso :madash

Good point.  Courage means looking straight at fear (of losing your job, a senior position, potential advancement) and doing the right thing.  I agree wt the other comments about Pence - his time to abandon Trump was before the election.  Now maybe he stayed on for 'the good of the party' but there were other times since when he could have and should have spoken up.  But the fact is 'good for the party' is not what is good for the country.  We have had too much party loyalty going on and the repubs have shown their unwillingness to be courageous and do the right thing.  Trump is a serious threat to the country and even if half of what this 'senior admin' person said is true - we are in deep trouble in allowing it to continue.  Trump will become even more intertwined into himself, suspicious of others, and make wrong 'executive' decisions.  We've given the power of the executive branch over to a unbalanced person.
