I'm not. Innocent until proven guilty. There's no reason to force the man to miss the birth of his child because some police agency just wants to talk to him. He'll still be available for questioning afterwards.

Just imagine if you missed the birth of your child because you were detained for questioning about something from 12 years ago. No warrant, no charges, just questioning.

He's here ILLEGALLY. He gets no sympathy from me.

Yeah, because people in here are seriously arguing that we should keep violent criminal undocumented immigrants.

Be better Ric.

Uh, just a few posts ago you and others were shrieking in outrage about how mean ICE was for arresting some guy driving his pregnant wife to the hospital. That guy was wanted for homicide-related charges.

So are we deporting murderers here illegally or not? So we feel sorry for them and give them a pass if the arrest is made at an inconvenient time for them? Let’s say some guy’s an illegal wanted on child rape charges. If he’s picking his kids up from school, is it okay for ICE to pick him up? Or is that too traumatic for his kids and mean to him?

Be consistent Clifford. Contradicting yourself so obviously within a few posts on the same page of a thread isn’t a great look.

YOU. DON'T. HAVE. PROOF. HE'S. A. MURDERER.

I don't know how much more clearly that can be explained to you.

I explained very clearly that some of the things ICE is doing are unconstitutional and you don't even blink. I'd think that would bother you, seeing as how you're arguing the constitutionality of Rosenstein's order in other threads.

You're frustrating to try to talk to because you try so hard to not be consistent. At all.

Here’s your proof. Seriously...is a simple Google search that complicated?

An official from the Mexican state of Guanajuato confirmed Monday that a man arrested while driving his pregnant wife to a hospital for a C-section in San Bernardino is wanted for homicide.

Weren't you the one complaining about partisan vitrol? The ACLU takes cases from all sides. Some are good cases, and some aren't. Maybe read the article, because I think this one falls in the good case category.

Josef Stalin said, “America is a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: Its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within.” The ACLU was founded by Socialists and Communists Crystal Eastman, Roger Baldwin, Norman Thomas, and Walter Nells for the purpose of making Stalin’s prophecy a reality.

Speaking of collusion.....

So, you're not going to actually read the article and have a discussion. Got it. Remind me again why I should listen to your complaints about one sidedness when you are the one with deaf ears?

Next there is no record of Stalin ever giving that quote

https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2016/feb/14/ben-carson/ben-carson-flubs-stalin-quote-about-bringing-down-/

And lastly, you forgot to include in your ignorant rant Helen Keller, Jane Adams, and future Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter as founders.

So that article claims both that an unnamed Mexican official says there's a warrant for his arrest and that the man's lawyer says they have mistaken him for his brother. Hopefully they will get a bail hearing (how crazy is it that everyone isn't afforded even a hearing?) so that either ICE can prove the warrant and that they have the right man or it can be proven that they don't, and then we'll know the truth of the matter.

I'm sure many of you have seen by now that Mollie Tibbets was found and an illegal immigrant was arrested for her murder. I can only imagine the heartbreak her family, friends and community are going through. This kind of stuff makes me sick to my stomach... annoyed... angry...

But, I do find the narrative coming out of this fairly interesting. Her death has people calling for tougher immigration laws, including President Trump and several lawmakers. Why is this not 'too soon?' When someone commits murder with a gun, particularly in a mass shooting, conservatives are quick to lambast any liberal who tries to use it as a platform for tougher gun laws. We often hear it's better to 'be respectful to the families' as they grieve. Yet, we see the horrific death of a young, bright human being, and it's time to call for tougher immigration laws.

This question is a bit rhetorical as I can name off several reasons why I think these situations are treated differently and some of them are quite valid. Nevertheless, it got me thinking and I'm interested in other thoughts.

To the bold .... 9/10 the gun shooter who kills is an American.

This situation is horrible, I don't want anyone to think I don't recognize that.  But Sydney Loofe was kidnapped and murdered by americans, white americans.  And there are many examples of that as well, my gut tells me far more examples.  If I have time later (or if anyone else sees the info) I'd like to know the number of kidnapping & murders by immigrants here illegally vs. american citizens.

I don't disagree that there is work to be done on immigration - but the "wall" and the blanket discrimination by color, country of origin, race, religion etc is just ignorant.  The fact that folks are more fearful of a brown skinned person that was born elsewhere than their 17 year old male neighbor who was abused, just got dumped by his girlfriend and has 8 guns is just mind blowing.

The whole dang thing is a red herring.

I can't for the life of me find anyone who's arguing in favor of keeping violent undocumented immigrants. It seems fairly clear the guy in question murdered her. He should face whatever the law throws at him AND should be deported, if he doesn't wind up in prison.

Obama said as much. He tried to focus our immigration (deportation) enforcement on those type of criminals. As did W Bush and I'm sure every president we've ever had since immigration enforcement became an issue.

I think people are fine calling for tougher laws because of the moment in time in which we find ourselves. The anti-immigrant forces in our politics and the country itself are as emboldened as they've ever been, because you had a guy who demagogued and demonized immigrants of all stripes just elected president, and he's installed similar minded people throughout the government, ala the Jeff Sessions and Stephen Miller types. They're taking advice from fervent anti-immigrant politicians like Tom Cotton. Even disgusting bigots like Rep Steve King are given quarter in their eyes.

The difference between this and gun violence is this is an issue many Republicans DO feel comfortable demagoguing.

Or open borders. It's poppyc$%k, but it terrifies the base and it's effective. We've seen people (a person) repeating that myth right here on HuskerBoard.

Yep. I know exactly what you mean.

This stuff runs fervent through the most influential voices in Republican media, too. The Hannity's and Laura Ingraham's and Rush's of the world. They very consistently set up straw man arguments for their opposition because they can so spectacularly tackle weak arguments that nobody is actually making.

The way they twist and distort the actual debate for their audience directly impedes progress on these important issues.
