DOJ Initial Russia Hearings

Trump going to try burying this news later today. This explains why his tweets have been so erratic. He must've known this was coming with Flynn and of course, cued the timing of this move up just after the news broke.

It's very true that being shameless is incredibly powerful in the world of politics. The shamelessness with which he times these major announcements is pretty gross.

Wait a minute.  This guy worked for a foreign government, was paid to do so, then worked for the future President of the US and worked to further the interests of the foreign government he was working for.

How in the HELL does he reconcile that in his brain that he continues to serve the United States?

A) He's also trying to protect his kid, who is also neck deep in doodoo since he was Flynn's chief of staff at the lobbying firm that tried to further Turkey's interest (up to an including the possible kidnapping and turning over of an exiled Turkish cleric living in the U.S.)

B) I guess he thinks he can try to atone for his sins by burning the whole admin down. To me, based on that ABC report above, it seems like his motivations are largely financial, family and being in CYA mode. Wrecking the Trump admin would just be a very, very happy side effect of saving his own skin.

Is it possible for Trump to found guilty of crimes but not prosecuted by Congress? What happens in that scenario?

The GOP does this.

Seriously, impeachment is a political mechanism. Congress can impeach for whatever they want to. Typically high crimes are cited, and they can pretty much be whatever they want them to be.

Indictment, on the other hand, is a criminal mechanism. A lot of people believe that Mueller could not indict the sitting POTUS since he's effectively an employee of the executive branch, but there is some disagreement on this. Ken Starr certainly thought they could.

Actually indicting a sitting president would be an incredible departure from normalcy. Which would mean it's perfectly expected in the Trump era.

So what I took from that article is Mueller can try to indict but it's ultimately going to be up to Congress. The article also made it sound like if Mueller gets close enough he will be fired, in that case Trump is going to fight tooth and nail to stay in office. Things should get interesting. Does the GOP decide to just cut and run? They haven't shown any indication of that and the Trump base remains intact to some degree. We are in the middle of what will one day be one of the most interesting chapters in the history book.

Comey will be vindicated  by all of this.

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/12/01/james-comey-offers-some-biblical-inspiration-after-flynn-guilty-plea.html

James Comey tweets out Bible verse following Flynn’s guilty plea   2 Hours Ago | 01:32Former FBI Director James Comey wrote what appeared to be a biblical subtweet on Friday shortly after Michael Flynn, the former Trump national security advisor, pleaded guilty to lying to FBI agents in December 2016.

"But justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream," he wrote on Twitter and Instagram.

Comey didn't mention Flynn directly, but the former law enforcement official is connected to the Flynn case in several ways.

Comey was head of the FBI at the time that Flynn lied to investigators with the bureau, and has said that Trump urged him to drop the government's investigation into Flynn the day after the former Defense Intelligence Agency chief resigned from his brief tenure in the White House.

"I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go," Trump told Comey, according to Comey's June testimony before Congress.
