The Trump Economy

It's a Libertarian thing, and he's about the only one that holds onto any of those values. Though, I have also been disappointed with how he has fallen in line with trump.

Justin Amash is probably your best hope of getting a legitimate Libertarian in the Senate. Rand mostly coasts by on Daddy's name and crouches on bended knee in service of Trump. Amash seems fare more genuine with his beliefs and is a really interesting dude even as someone who leans liberal.

@StPaulHusker @TGHusker As far as the farmers go, I know many are not happy about the inability to move their crops. They'll take the payments but they seem pretty ticked off about the state of things under Trump at this point. Farms continue to go bankrupt at a pretty good clip. Will be very interesting to see how that bloc goes in 2020. Trump's popularity in many farm-reliant Midwest states has taken a major hit since they swept him into office two years ago.

Let's not kid ourselves.  Most of these farmers that are "ticked off" at taking a government handout will mostly vote R in 2020.

rebound this morning?  i think it will go up at least for awhile this morning.  not sure about this afternoon but trump did tell his followers to buy today.

Sadly, most of his followers don't have the means to buy.

One thing to pay attention to is the likelihood that the sell-off has been exacerbated by two things.

A) the prevalence of index investing and HFT/ quant hedge funds has proliferated the idea of momentum investing.

B) Some investors may be taking the opportunity to take some losses off the table near YE so that they can wash some of the earlier gains.

While there has been an uptick in volatility and steep sell-off, fundamentally the economy is still solid - especially relative to the rest of the world. However, if the market does not bounce back by mid-January, there might be greater issues to deal with. At that point, seasonality and trend-following investing will no longer be able to be used as excuses.

Is an interesting bounce so far.

Super low volume.

Interesting.

Doesn’t that many times mean the major move isn’t indicative of a market wide sentiment?

Absolutely - that could be an explanation.

It also tends to get pretty thin right around holidays - especially Thanksgiving and Christmas.
