The GOP's Hunter Biden Ukraine Conspiracy Theory

Recommended Posts

Tired of clogging up the 2020 election thread with this nonsense so I'll just make a new thread and call it what it is.

The further we get away from the "bombshell" NY Post report, the more this rickety pile of crap falls apart.

It is almost hilarious how completely inept Rudy, Bannon, et al. are at this. If I weren't afraid a decent chunk of Americans are stupid enough to fall for this.

Ok....can someone help me out here?  There are parts of this story I don’t know.

Supposedly, Hunter dropped off a laptop at a shop to be worked on, right?

is it confirmed it’s actually his computer?

Did the Republicans steel it?  How did they get it?

And why would his computer have text messages on it? I came here to ask for a summary too.

Nothing on that hard drive can be considered real.  That's been extensively explained HERE.

Reporters in the NY Post newsroom expressed serious doubts about the story before it was published.

And this was all pushed by Steve Bannon & Rudy Guiliani, with Rupert Murdoch's blessing.

This is all Keystone Kops level nonsense. Even a cursory examination of the hard drive shows it can't have been Hunter Biden's. We know they're going to try another "but her emails" October surprise. We know they're targeting Hunter Biden.

This couldn't be more ignorantly transparent. Sure, the cult will believe it, but there aren't enough members in the cult to elect Trump.

So what's the point? To sow disinformation and make a Biden presidency as difficult as possible? Even for these guys, this is weak.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Two ways that I know of:

In the past I have used a feature where you can download and save txts in your email as a backup. I think you can have them backed up regularly if you want to. No reason you couldn't save them to a hard disk as well.

The other; doesn't Apple save messages on similar devices such as iPads, phones, and computers as long as they are logged into an account? I don't use Apple products, but I know my mom can look at txts on her iPad.

Yes, my iPhone and Mac are all tied together with applications like texting.

Important context here, for those wondering how a laptop belonging to Hunter (living in CA at the time) wound up dropped off and left behind at a random Trump-lover's computer repair shop in Delaware.

Burisma was hacked by Russia in 2019. We know Russia is attempting to interfere in our election as we speak.

Five people apparently had access to "hard drives" (no longer "laptop") containing info on Hunter Biden: Steve Bannon and his Chinese billionaire backer Guo Wengui (Bannon bragged about this as early as September 28th), the random pro-Trump Mac repair guy, who randomly decided to turn over the drive Hunter Biden randomly dropped off and left at his shop over the Rudy Giuliani and his lawyer, who ran off to the New York Post.

There's no hard evidence of this we're privy to yet, but it'd be pretty easy to copy hacked materials onto a new hard drive and claim it's someone else's.

This story stinks to high hell. It's not even hard to pick apart and connect the dots about what's going on here. And yet there are still lots of rubes sure this is completely on the up and up and infallible proof of Joe Biden's corruption. :laughpound

Edit: Gonna just leave this here.

On further reflection, it's not hard to blow this story to pieces. It took me less than ten minutes because I knew what to look for and where to look for it.

The problem is you're never going to get exposed to that stuff if you don't step outside the Fox News, conservative talk, MAGA media bubble. They're only gonna serve up stuff, heavy on sketchy sources and speculation (see the Fox News anchor and U.S. senator WILDLY speculating there may be child porn based on subpoena handwriting analysis!), that reinforces their side of this nonsense.

Our civic education and media choices in this country are badly failing us.

So, you can't answer my questions?

There is so much of this story that indicates it's total BS.

And you didn't answer mine, but as of now it is; No! The Biden campaign does not deny that Hunter Biden actually sent and received those emails.

As I said before, I can buy that the laptop repair story is Steele-Dossier-level BS, because it sounds like a scene from Get Smart.  But the crime is that Hunter Biden was selling access to foreign bidders, and not that Hunter improperly destroyed evidence.  But people will ignore that because EVERYMAN UNCOVERS SINISTER PLOT is just soo much cooler.
