I fear darker days are ahead

Well December 21st is the shortest day of the year, so yes, darker days are ahead.

I encourage anyone who is feeling down about this team to watch a few replays of the Riley's last season and then re-watch our 2020 games against NW, Penn State, Iowa, etc...  We are a much better team.  Yes, we are making mistakes but there is massive progress if you can sit back without emotion an see what's happening.  In my opinion, I believe most fans are upset right now because they know we were good enough to be sitting at 1 or 2 losses right now instead of 4.  It's frustrating as hell but we are in a much better position than we were 3 years ago.

This may be one of my favorite posts !  I couldn't have expressed it better (or I would have Sat - Mon)

Could we actually be headed for darker days in the future?  We may end this season with a single win.  In what was a developmental year and with little pressure to perform!  I used to believe that hitting bottom for NU was missing bowl games (circa 2004).  Must we actually achieve 0-12 in order to hit bottom?

Nah. I like how you tried to play the part of being a Husker fan with the trolling here though, good effort. Yes this is far below the standards expected by Nebraska fans. However, the interesting part is what has proven to be the ceiling for the Iowa & Wisconsin programs is what got two Nebraska coaches fired. I do believe that the program had sky high, unrealistic expectations but that is what decades of dominance bring and unfortunately, set us up to self-inflict problems on ourselves. Though this season has been a disappointment, this team is vastly different than the pitiful performances in 2017. I believe the future is bright and we have a great opportunity going forward.

Will paper bags with eye holes be available for sale outside Memorial Stadium next year?  Sounds possible.

Do you think that will stop the coronavirus?

Some of those Riley teams hurt to watch. To be sure, we are not getting killed by the Iowas and Northern Illinois teams. Frost has nearly won all three of the Iowa games, Riley never really got close.

Edit: I hate Iowa. Blowing that stupid kiss last year was cheap.

I think many of us had visions of a UCF type of turn around.  "If Frost could do it at UCF, surely he could do it here with our great resources".  Those unrealistic expectations placed undo pressure on the team to be Big 10 championship caliber in 2-3 years.  I know I underestimated how deep the rebuild would be.  How soft the culture had become.  Frost hasn't been without missteps of his own but hopefully he is learning.  I'm still not sure he can do the rebuild wt his UCF coaches.  But the team is getting more physical, the chaff is leaving the program (Florida 5 - as they reveal their true commitment level).  Hopefully the underclassmen will take ownership of the team in the same way those 1990 teams did.  Once the players take ownership, it will rise to a new level.

I hope it happens fast as I plan on being at the NU/OU game in Norman next Sept.

I am planning on going to that game too!

I mean we all literally were saying Frost needed a long contract to fix the ship and some people are losing their minds less than 3 years in....he was given a 7 year deal for a reason. We sucked

And we still suck. I'm all for giving Frost time, but the team is regressing each year since his hire.

Improvement isn't getting the doors blown off you at home against Illinois in year 3.

My opinion on Frost will be finalized in year 5. If he doesn't do well that season, Nebraska should look elsewhere.

Why was Riley given a contract extension two months before he was fired? I think something similar was given to Bo before the hatchet showed up.

I am in the exact same position as you in terms of when my final decision will be made regarding Frost. Year 5 is going to tell me a whole lot about his development as a HC. Is he going to make the needed decisions and changes between now and then to make us a team with proven P5 coaches? Frost needs help coaching this team.

Terrible Leadership at NU is my guess. I actually think Moos is the best AD we have had since Devaney....

After watching the Iowa game I felt like I needed to get some things off of my chest, so I made an account here (did not want to pay for Huskermax lol). This is my first post, so bear with me. If Frost wins 1/2 games this year, and 3/4/5 next, does he get let go? What if year 5 is sub .500 as well? How bad would our program look if he gets let go? I want Frost to succeed just as much as the next guy, but I have serious questions at this point. At least we seem more physical than Mike Reilly's teams ever were. My prediction? Frost underperforms next year, we give him another year, and let him go after year 5. He finishes with around a .400 record. Rinse, lather, and repeat with another coach who wins 4 games a year and start a "rebuilding" project from square 1 all over again. Why would any coach with half a name want to coach at Nebraska? Heck, why would any recruits want to play at Nebraska? Who is to say that we don't get another Reilly? who says we win more than 5 games ever again? Why do teams like Wisconsin outperform us when we out recruit them year over year by a good margin? I know I am being pessimistic, but I call things like I see 'em. Dang I hope I am wrong. Someone please tell me that I am just being too critical and I need to go play golf to ease the nerves.

I think instead of hitting the links you should put down the devil's dandruff over there.  I picked up about 1 coherent thought for every 10 question you fired off.

To reiterate, we don't out recruit Wisconsin year over year by a good margin.  If you look at the past few Wisconsin recruiting classes they do have less *s in the skill position but what will jump out at you is year over year they are getting 2-3 OTs that rank in the top 300 recruits, some of which happen to be top 20's and top OL recruits for their given year.  This is what identity means- recruiting rankings doesnt do WI justice when they are still recruiting OL talent with the best schools in the country, Alabama, Clemson, and ohio states of the world included.  If you're a top flight O lineman in high school, you're listening to what Wisconsin has to say based off its track record

What position group do we have similar to this?  None...

Also, I'm curious what exactly happened on friday to compel you to spin up an account now.  Despite our inability to hike the ball and our revolving door of quarterbacks and rbs behind a porous oline, we still had a pretty damn good chance at beating the #24 team in the country.  As has been stated, there is so much that needs to be addressed but we are in a much better spot then we were 3-4 years ago against these same progrums

Ha! Eickhorst got one too. Either it was a blindside or a super secret bribe to stay dignified through the transition. Either way, I have little faith in using extensions as an assurance of continuity.

although Eickhorst and Riley only received one year extensions that made their contracts good through 2020.
