DOS will not provide an approval, but we will provide a ‘no objection’ to the destination country government via the U.S. Embassy in that country."  

 

I get the security risk, but there should be another way to secure those flights and quarantine the passengers until they can be verified. If this were a normal day-to-day scenario the precautions makes sense, but it's not...

 

Escort the plane in with fighters and don't allow it to leave the runway until US personnel have boarded, inspected, and removed the passengers. Then escort the plane out of the airspace.

sorry if it is covered in the story...no time to read it tonight.  but if i was in charge i doubt i would allow charter planes with no anti missle  systems on them to fly into a war zone.

It's almost like they shouldn't have ignored their own intel that Kabul was destined to fall immediately after the withdrawal and they should've tried to evacuate people BEFORE the withdrawal....

They should have had a much more comprehensive exit plan, but my understanding is that even the hawkish intel predicted Kabul would fall within a year, not a week.
