nic
Looks like the Big 12 might be re-thinking expansion. http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/111803/oklahoma-president-david-boren-puts-possible-big-12-expansion-back-in-news The last option was interesting. 'If the Huskers completely soured on their Big Ten experience, maybe they would be open to reconciliation. One thing is for sure: The Big 12 would welcome them back with open arms.' I haven't spoken to my Husker friends recently, but what are the odds Big Red would go back? Quote Link to comment
Hedley Lamarr
We would be stupid to go back IMO we have stability and are what most consider a superior conference Quote Link to comment
Nebraska Alum
'If the Huskers completely soured on their Big Ten experience, maybe they would be open to reconciliation. One thing is for sure: The Big 12 would welcome them back with open arms.' I haven't spoken to my Husker friends recently, but what are the odds Big Red would go back? We'd never go back. That's pretty much just wishful thinking by ESPN, because ESPN has basically 'invested' in the Big12 and also sees the Big Ten as a business competitor due to the Big Ten Network. WoodyHayes1951
Put a truth serum in many Nebraska fans, and they would probably admit their realignment to the Big Ten hasn’t been what they hoped it would be. Total non-sequitur. All about the team performance. There hasn't been a conference championship, and games like Wisconsin 2014 don't raise confidence and morale. That's why they fired their coach. I would say some of the hope was due to the idea that a Big XII team would come in and dominate most of the conference. Especially against the Iowas, Minnesotas and Northwesterns. The Huskers have fallen into second-tier status in the Big Ten. They're in the division opposite Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State, which reduces their number of marquee games. Wisconsin has been consistently better than two of those schools for quite some time now. Besides, they would be back in the Big XII North with OU, Baylor, TCU and Texas in the South. That means Iowa State, West Virginia, Kansas and Kansas State(along with someone like Cincinnati or Memphis) would join them in the north. that is atrocious. Nebraska once played one of college football's most storied rivalry games against Oklahoma. Today, Nebraska's big rival is Iowa, which barely moves the needle in Lincoln, much less the rest of the country. Stassen.com seems to be missing a lot of those great NU v OU games from 1996-2010. Nebraska left the Big 12 primarily over its frustrations with the leadership at Texas. But since Nebraska's exit, the Longhorns have hired a president, a new athletic director and a new football coach. Is there a Big XII network happening any time soon? 2 Quote Link to comment
huKSer
Sure we would go back Oh, darnn. We signed the media rights to the Big Ten Network. So our home games will be on the Big Ten Network, and the visitor games will be on . . . uh, pay-per-view? And the university would just walk away from the CIC (?) money that goes to academics, which is what the real business of the university is about. The following is why NU will NEVER go back: Bowlsby said just last month that there is "no interest" from the league in expanding. Oklahoma president David Boren made waves when he suggested the Big 12 “should strive for” a 12-team league. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
Not just no.....but HELL no!!!!!!! Quote Link to comment
nic
I didn't mean to imply that it would be a good decision to do so. I was actually surprised to see it suggested (although it was under the less likely category). But I was curious about the pulse of Husker Nation. I know the Big Ten West placement was a disappointment. We need OU and Virginia to join so we can do the 4 pod system and play each other more often. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
OU will not do anything that Texas doesn't do. Their AD said that specific thing. So, everyone can stop dreaming about OU joining the BigTen. Quote Link to comment
RedDenver
The B1G experience has been underwhelming, especially last season and this one not playing Mich, tOSU, or PSU. Adding Rutgers and Maryland makes the conference unwieldy without moving the interest needle for those teams. But the B12 wasn't all that good either. I'd go back to the B8 and those OU matchups if I could. The B1G is probably the best for NU when all is said and done. Quote Link to comment
Notre Dame Joe
So it sounds like neither the current Big10 or Big12 with Texas is entirely satisfactory to you. Quote Link to comment
Moiraine
So it sounds like neither the current Big10 or Big12 with Texas is entirely satisfactory to you. Bingo. I prefer the Big Ten over Big12, but ideally we'd still be in the Big 8 or the Big12 - Texas. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
The big 8 would be dead by now if it stayed the same. 1 Quote Link to comment

So, everyone can stop dreaming about OU joining the BigTen. Yes, Oklahoma said back in, what, 2010, that they were hitching their schooner to Texass. That attitude has changed since then, as they see Texass is all about self-preservation, and while Texass may think they don't need a conference if the Big XII collapses around them, Oklahoma knows they do need one. 1 Quote Link to comment
Scratchtown
If Oklahoma goes anywhere, it will end up in the SEC (Unfortunately) Quote Link to comment
WoodyHayes1951
I would imagine that no one in the Big XII will move unless UT does it first. If OU wants to break apart from Okie lite then it will have to be when everyone is abandoning ship. Maybe then OU and KU would jump to the SEC or Big Ten. UT-Austin would fit well with the UWs, UC-Boulders and Berkeley's of the world. Hard to imagine OU and KU fitting in or liking 60% of the country being asleep when some of their games are on. Academics, Culture, and Geography are all important to decision. I don't know if in Big XII country they like to wave the pom poms at games like they do in the south, but I was watching a replay of the Alabama vs Missouri game and Tiger fans looked like fish out of water waving those pom poms like Southerners.
