A fair number of the posters in this political forum lean conservative, too. But maybe it's not so obvious. Because as soon as these conservatives and Republicans and Libertarians express disgust over Donald Trump, or complain that one-time conservative values have been hijacked by partisan obsessives, they get lumped in as knee-jerk liberals, and the "responses to them" show no more open-mindedness that what you appear to be complaining about. The reason it's hard to defend Trump, his administration and spokespeople, and many of the right wing talking points is because they are wrong on so many moral and logical levels. I think that's starting to tire out all but the most deluded true believers. Anyone who wants to challenge some convenient liberal myths -- jump on in. I'll join you. But if your logic is shot down by tons of evidence to the contrary, it's not necessarily because you're a victim of liberal groupthink. You may just be wrong.7 points

You've made some cogent points on this thread, and forced some other posters to rethink and redefine their positions. This forum could use a little more push from the right. But this is one of those "true colors" posts. Ugly and inaccurate and yet clearly indicative of the mindset: a brave warrior for the truth who will swallow any bulls#!t conspiracy theory to thwart his liberal adversary. And then run away like a coward. This is why there aren't more people like you on this forum. Speaking of the truth, please let me know the college where you are teaching. We need to protect our children.7 points

The responses to Ric have been wholly deserved, and there have been plenty in this topic arguing with him who also lean conservative.4 points

i don't need to prove myself to them. i might try to make them realize they are being mushrooms and being fed bulls#!t from Fox and friends but they will never believe me. what i have done is registered as independent now. i will try to judge the person i vote for on his or her own merits rather than paying any attention to whether they have an R or D or I by their name on the ballot. we should ll do that anyway no matter what party we belong to. i think alabama might have started to realize that this year. and i will try to stick to the topic of this thread from here on. i let wooo boy divert me. he is like a russian bot spewing junk to divert us from the topic of the thread.3 points

I'll jump in and do it on this thread, because that's where we happen to be. The abortion rate in the United States is at an historic low right now, even lower than it was prior to Roe vs. Wade. Contraceptives help stop unwanted pregnancies. Those are facts. Informed speculation suggests that Planned Parenthood -- by its name and everything they do -- is trying to reduced unwanted pregnancies through private counseling and easily available contraception, and has been highly successful at this. When unwanted pregnancies happen anyway, abortion is a legal option. The combination of safe, legal abortion, sex education and multiple affordable contraceptive options appears by every available metric to have reduced unwanted pregnancies and the abortions that come with them. Prior to Roe v Wade, illegal abortions were common -- again, at an even higher rate than they occur now when abortions are legal. People with money could get safe abortions for their wives, daughters, and mistresses from reputable family doctors. People without money had to rely on unsafe abortions from high risk practitioners. So it would make sense for Planned Parenthood to ensure their services were available in low-income neighborhoods -- including the free contraceptives that cut into those awesome abortion profits -- but in fact Planned Parenthood is in cities and neighborhoods of all incomes and ethnicities.3 points

Start Vehicle. Turn heat to defrost, high. If you have window defrosters, turn them on high. Go do something else for 15 minutes. Return to vehicle and scrape ice if any remains. There ya go.3 points

Wow. This debate has been going on for eons but Ric Flair is here to finally tell us what the founders were thinking! What a gift for this forum.3 points

Okay so post something that you believe in, like, or do that is generally not viewed as conforming with popular opinion. Me? I loved Suicide Squad and The Justice League. Please keep politics out of this thread.2 points

Every so often I try to imagine that Obama is president. And it turns out his campaign adviser helped get a pro-Russian anti-European president elected in Ukraine and that president's opponent jailed. He then refused to implement sanctions on Russia after they attacked Ukraine. He then gave away classified intel from one of our allies to the top Russian spy. + 500 other things. Then I imagine how the "lock her up" Republicans would be reacting. Then I wonder how they could be so completely self unaware.2 points

blame them also...but why the f#*k don't we even try to stop the tools that the crazies who get by the checks use? there used to be a very good fertilizer we could buy that unfortunately was useful for making bombs that some crazy used. it's illegal now. but how many assualt weapons have killed how many and we just shrug our shoulders and say thoughts and prayers?2 points

Here's what I think: if men could get pregnant, not only would abortions be legal, they'd also be covered by health insurance, there would be an abortion clinic on almost every street corner, and there would be zero stigma to have one.2 points

Well.... I’m a catholic pro life gun owner that likes as low of taxes as possible and reasonable and efficient government. But, I’m sure im a libtard wackjob becauss Trump is a disgusting piece of s#!t and I would never belong to a pathetic organization like the NRA or the Republican Party right now. Ummmm......try harder.2 points

I didn't see the post, but I don't see how it requires dancing at all. The Republican party doesn't hold a monopoly on conservatism.2 points

No. You are stating talking points from some conservative propaganda - not facts. And later we can discuss on an appropriate thread.2 points
-
Yes, exactly. A lot of the most frequent posters here are quite conservative, though it may not be obvious. I'd be hopeful if their views shaped a new American conservatism in the years to come. I'd venture to say this board is more receptive to conservative ideas than liberal, though I wouldn't have figured this not too long ago. But conservative is not the same as the modern GOP, and that's a big difference. The slave patrol history of the 2nd amendment called to mind another thing: Section 2, Article 1, as it still appears: It's a good thing we have amendments.2 points

HA! This isn't the place but boy do i have so much to say about this. Also, no one is trying to repeal the second amendment but the interperetation was greatly streched within the last century and that is a fact2 points

Anyhoo, the reason I asked this is all the cars in the parking lot yesterday morning were blocks of ice, and I saw 2 guys grab their ice picks and scrape forever, accomplishing nothing. I assumed they were not from Nebraska because what kind of idiot doesn't turn the car on first? So if you answered " Enter vehicle. Grab scraper, exit vehicle and scrape," you're wrong.1 point

there was an armed guard at columbine. also at the pulse night club. and at this latest school shooting in florida. and there were armed security at the las vegas concert. the assault rifle wielding nuts have so much firepower that the pistols had very little effect in stopping them when they were employed at columbine and the nightclub. not sure if the guard in florida would have done much good or not if he hadn't froze......we will never know.1 point

Except that my goals are policy-driven. If the Dems or the Repubs or the Whigs or whoever adopted policies I agree with, I'd be more likely to vote for them. I think you just don't agree with my methods of getting to the policies that I want. If you've got some way to vote for a party AND make them change, then I'd consider that method, but politicians who keep getting elected are unlikely to change. Hillary won Colorado where I voted, and the current system doesn't give her any more electors for having a bigger proportion of the vote. Go ahead and tell me how my vote would have changed the outcome in any way. I mean if we're only looking at outcomes, then your method of voting also got Trump elected. As I explained, I looked at my choices, considered the risks based on the state I'm voting in, and voted in a way that I thought would best achieve my goals. As it turned out, no matter how I voted, nothing would have changed. But they are happening. Maine instituted ranked-choice voting in 2016. Maine and Nebraska already have proportional electors in the electoral college. We don't have to get rid of the electoral college to make things better. You've said what I've been trying to say, "We can only use the levers we’ve got." I'm trying to empower people that align with my policy goals. The system is indeed imperfect, so I have to make choices as to how best to do that. I agree that Trump and his ilk are terrible short-term, but none of us knows what will happen long-term. The real long-term power in our government is Congress. I think long-term we need systemic changes in our economy. Neither Clinton nor Trump were going to do that. But the possible silver-lining with Trump (and you have to squint to see it) is that he's so terribly bad that voters may finally see through the facade of the Republicans, which could lead to long-term voting changes.1 point

Well, cutting a men's sport would be the less desirable option, but It could happen. Here is a list of B1G-sponsored women's sports that Nebraska does NOT participate in yet: - Field Hockey (12-scholarship limit) - Lacrosse (12) - Rowing (20) Nebraska has three non-B1G-sponsored Varsity Women's sports: - Bowling (5) - Rifle (3.6) - Beach Volleyball (6) And here are some other non-sponsored possibilities: -Fencing (5) -Hockey (18) -Water Polo (8) Additionally there are some sports that the NCAA has designated as "emerging sports" for women, and are actively trying to grow, including some incentives and grants: -Equestrian (15) -Rugby (12) -Triathlon (6.5) -Archery (formerly an "emerging sport", no longer regulated by NCAA, but can still count towards varsity athletes)1 point

Something tells me that Martinez is going to start next season. Not making a prediction, just verbalizing a hunch. If I had to guess, I would say no QBs will switch positions. Although, O'Brien might be able to play TE (more of a blocker than anything) just based on size. No idea if he's strong or physical enough to actually play TE though. My hunch is the fall depth chart at QB will be: #1 Martinez #2 Gebbia #3 Bunch #4 O'Brien Of all the QBs, I think O'Brien is perhaps the least suited to run Coach Frost's offense. Now that I've said that, watch POB emerge as the starter...1 point
