He appeared to be a good teammate, even after his benching. Horrid play by the young man all year, but I wish him well. I wonder what he’s getting his degree in. I think he is certainly going to need to lean on that here in a couple years.10 points

I guess when Rhule stated last week that a good portal QB would cost $1M-$2M he was advertising that Nebraska is willing to pay in that range for a QB.9 points

Why can't you wish the kid good luck instead bashing him. He was a good team mate & needs a new start.7 points

I get a little nervous about QBs like McCord. He has one of the best O Lines and a stacked receiver room. I'd like to see a player that is a game manager that has overachieved based on the talent around them. Seems less risky to me.7 points

Huskers have their first road game at Minnesota. Huskers are currently a 2.5 point favorite with an over/under of 146.5. Same availability as the last several games - no Ulis or Keita. Game is on BTN at 8:00. GBR!5 points

Martinez’s pass + rushing attempts divided by turnovers. 34.8 30.4 30.3 33.8 114.5 Guess which year he was at K-State.5 points

I fully expect Sims to land softly at a G5 school. Best of luck to him wherever he ends up.5 points

Or those of us that continue to watch Husker men’s sports need to go to therapy.4 points

It's not hard to say that, it is just wrong. You just answered your own question.4 points

Older brother of Umanmielen entered the portal. 7 sacks last year. Yes please!4 points

People who get paid to do what they love, but are horrible at it....don't get paid anymore to do what they love.4 points

If money was all that I valued I would be doing a lot more in that capacity. He is a professional athlete at this point. And one who will be probably working at a cubicle like the rest of the USA.4 points

This basketball team is awful I beg you guys to stop blaming refs and instead realize the team isn't even close to being a competitive program3 points

Backup RB wants to be the bell cow for his 5th year. I wish it meant something and OSU was crumbling, but I'm telling you they are perfectly content with every one of their portal entries so far moving on. They would've liked McCord and Fleming as depth, but that's it.3 points

You can now text to donate to 1890. Ya know, incase you want to chip in to the portal QB fund3 points

He’s a paid athlete. Nobody in here was saying they don’t wish him to do well. Just that he probably won’t. Seems like a nice guy.3 points
-
No one outside of McCord and Fleming was going to be in their two-deep, and those two wouldn't be starting. Maybe there's something with Day too, but they are not concerned with any of the portal entries and probably encouraged most of them.3 points

This....... I played D2 football. I also was around many legit D1 players through high school. I think it's lazy when people say he will excel at a lower level. If you can't remember the play or handle a snap, you're a liability. Regardless of the level of comp. He's a risk for whoever takes him. I think he's going to have a real hard time finding a decent destination. And I think we all know how it's going to go. EDIT: But a FCS school may want to risk one of their 63 schollys because he's a nice guy and good teammate. A D2 would most certainly consider breaking up one of there 36 scholly's to have a positive clip board holder.3 points

Of the thousands of players that have entered the portal, quite a few won't find a landing spot. It's very possible this is one of them.3 points
-
I'm guessing not very accurate. They are just based on some algorithm. No one really knows what these guys are getting paid. There are whispers and message board rumors, but really only the players and the guys that actually pay them know what anyone is getting.3 points

In three full games, a partial game and one series, Sims turned the ball over ten times. I can't imagine there's going to be much of a market for that kind of play out there. If he doesn't get picked up, do we just cut him?3 points

Not sure I'd call it a mass exodus, it's all playing time. McCord had a good year but was told they will be looking in the portal. He would have the opportunity to keep his job but they are swinging for a big name and he's likely going to be the backup if he stays. Fleming got passed by some younger guys. He's good, you just have to be great to play WR there. Everyone they sign is a big time recruit, so it's all "OSU loses multiple high 4-stars and 5-stars to the portal!" but McCord and Fleming are the only two I see who had significant playing time and would be contributors next year. The next biggest name is Cameron Martinez, but his role has decreased each of his 3 years there. They are all being processed/seeking more playing time they weren't going to get.3 points

Have to admit, my confidence in this team was shaken with the last game. We've had some bad basketball over the years. But, It has been a long time since I've seen the team play that bad. I hope Fred has done a very good job coaching since that game to get them back on track.3 points

I can understand that hesitation and should be considered by the coaching staff when evaluating what fits best for NU. How would his performance be when playing with lesser talent. Would he be able to elevate the talent around him? I would be fine with any of the mentioned QB’s that are associated with NU interest at this point. All would be a very large upgrade over what the team currently has.3 points

Please expand on how and why we won because of HH instead of winning despite HH. I'm assuming you'll fail to mention his 49% passing completion percentage and the way he regressed through the season. But I know your schtick is to nitpick single pieces of a larger statement to try and get a rise out of others. If that gives you your jollies, so be it. My comment was answering the question of whether Sims earned the starting spot at the beginning of the season versus being handed the position. I did not hear a peep from others suggesting that Purdy or Haarberg should be the starter so I tend to assume that neither of them earned the starting spot. Sims' performances did not justify the starting spot and consequently he was benched.3 points

I can tell you're still not understanding. I repeat: his point was not to actually have anybody reflect on how college football players are like people in sweatshops. I can't underscore that enough. It was about the concept in general of somebody being compensated something versus not being compensated at all and then saying "what's the problem; they're getting paid something." NIL coming into existence was about getting rid of the rule that the NCAA had made that said the market can't decide (through whatever avenues) how and how much a player can make. Instituting NIL is less of an overt statement saying that college athletes weren't being "paid enough" as it is just admitting that the previous rule saying they can't make paper money (or any other kind of payment) really wasn't logically consistent. The athletes were never like kids in a sweatshop and NFL players making millions are not like slave labor "because that's not even enough money." Literally nobody has said either of those things in this thread - it's just you saying it due to not having understood the premise.2 points

You’re comparing a guy on one of the least talented rosters in the pac vs a guy on one of the most talented rosters in all of college football. Martinez only had 2 turnovers at K-State because they have a great oline.2 points

Insurance companies in the middle of it is one of the biggest reasons for healthcare to cost so much and this is an example of why. For the most part, Insurance companies don't care what it costs because they will just pass it along in premiums.2 points

In the end it doesn't matter Nebraska didn't win the games that mattered and HH won't be the starting qb next year.2 points
