Thats even more impressive when you remember that one of the main reasons Nebraska was rolling when TO took over is because he was on BDs staff.

TO had a lot to do with getting Nebraska rolling before he was named head coach. Your point about the advantages at Bama somewhat proves my point.

 

I fall back to the MLM adage of Whether you believe you can or you can't, you're right. I believe Saban believed he couldn't win like he wanted to at MSU so he chose an easier path with the inherent recruiting advantages the South has inherited over the past 30ish years. I didn't see guys like Osborne, Paterno, and others leave Northern schools because they couldn't develop a program and convince their bosses to provide the required level of support to do so. 

 

I can easily see an argument for calling Saban the greatest. Simply by numbers, no one accomplished what he has. But on the way to deifying him, lets not gloss over the path he took to set up himself up to best achieve those numbers.

i'm guessing some of the higher profile coaches will look at having their contracts re-evaluated to keep them.  Be a cascade effect I'm sure.  Can't imagine Bama going for an unknown guy.  Least amount of "ripple effect" would be hire someone from the NFL.  

 

Anyone had Saban retires in 2024 on their bingo card....

2023 was the beginning of the end of the SEC-tugfest. This cements that. Thank goodness. A new era is upon us.

And of course the fans of the other SEC schools would keep questioning why Alabama's Frank Solich equivalent got fired, and would even make the really embarrassing move of electing that coach to the CFB Hall of Fame about 20 years later. 

I'm sure if the transfer portal existed back in the 90s/2000s, franks 5 year slide wouldve occured at a much more rapid clip

I also had to look up who the hell Pat Schurmur is. Apparently he's the co-OC for a Colorado team that just dumped the previous year's roster and still went 4-8. Jesus Christ, they're listing him as a possibility for Alabama head coach? I find it mind blowing enough that they're even listing Deion Sanders on there.

 

And Billy Napier, who's on a smoking hot seat after 2 losing seasons at UF and is derogatorily known as Sun Belt Billy? Lol.

 

I've always found it inexplicable enough that Nebraska promoted a RB coach to the head job when Nebraska was at the top of CFB and coaches presumably would have lined up for miles begging for the Nebraska job.  Alabama hiring some of the guys on this list when they're at the top of CFB would top even that.

Wildly different as he coached at schools that are in states that are recruiting hot beds surrounded by states that are recruiting hot beds.  But yes TO took over a machine

Dabo Sweeney may be a great FB coach, but he has struggled to adapt in the ever changing CFB world.

Alabama is in for a down era I think. SEC will have more competition, and without Saban the Tide just don't strike the fear in opponents. LSU, Ole Miss, Texas and Oklahoma will look to fill the void left by Saban.

Don’t get too excited over what names are on that list. It’s just odds from an online sportsbook. They would list you and me if they knew who we were.
