Watched a few docs. this weekend:

Evil Genius: The true story of Americas most diabolical bank heist- I couldn't stop watching this (i think) 5 part series. Pretty sad and truly dont get a ton of answers. Lots of speculation and some people claiming this or that, but just a sad series with a lot of very un-likable characters.

I watched it.  As usual, excellent.  Equal to "Making a Murderer" and "Wild Wild Country" . :snacks:

Watched "The Real Casino Royale" last night on Amazon Video.  It was a 45 minute-ish documentary about the explosion of gambling in Britain in the last 1950s and early 1960s.  If you're into gambling its a pretty good watch.  The aristocratic Brits were degenerates!

I havent seen Wild Wild country but sounds like I should?

I highly recommend this documentary.   I like real story Netflix's docuseries.

Spoiler

Brief plot: In 1981, cult purchased acres after acres in remote Oregon to build a perfect town ..... seven thousand people!  However, conflict with the locals, multiple lawsuits, a federal investigation, attempted murder and the largest bio-terrorism attack in U.S. history.  I never heard about this news until Wild Wild Country series.  Again, not fiction at all but real story.

Quote

Within three years, the Rajneesh's cult followers developed a community, turning the ranch from an empty rural property into a city of up to 7,000 people, complete with typical urban infrastructure such as a fire department, police, restaurants, malls, townhouses, a 4,200-foot airstrip, a public transport system using buses, a sewage reclamation plant and a reservoir.

I can highly recommend Wild Wild Country. I faintly knew a bit about this deal but it’s just crazy what exactly went on.  It’s worth a watch. IIRC the first segment moves a bit slow but once you get through the first hour it gets easier.

Well, I finished watching The Expanse on Amazon, the first two seasons anyway. Really enjoyed it and anxious for s3 and beyond. Was kind of bummed as I thought s3 was available on Prime but it’s currently airing on SyFy channel.

So, since I couldn’t go any further with Expanse, started Lost In Space. It’s okayish but not overly impressed so far. My opinion may being influenced by it suffering in comparison to The Expanse. So far I like the 3 kids and the “robot” but don’t really like the mother or father characters and, as Moiraine has pointed out, there are some rather glaring deficiencies in the story.

I will start watching it this week.

I had heard good things but these comments pushed me over the edge.

I watched the first 10 minutes or so of Mindhunter over the weekend. Definitely going to watch the rest

Will be interested to hear your thoughts after the finale. We got really into it based on the first 10 minutes and, by the time we reached mid-season, we struggled to maintain interest.

Still not sure how I feel about this second season:

My fiancée was really into the first one and I kept tagging along, but I'm not really sure what a second season is going to offer. Even she's hesitant to start it up.

The middle of the 1st season of Mindhunters drags a bit, but it's setting up a really good ending and the reasons for a lot of the middle part of the season become clear.

I am hugely disappointed to discover the Joel McHale show on Netflix is only going to have short series.  They ended this one after 13 episodes.

This show is the only way I stay connected to pop culture. I'm never going to actually watch the Kardashians or Jersey Shore, but since everyone talks about them it's useful to have at least a little bit of familiarity with who/what they're talking about.  Plus it's funny to watch Joel skewer these people.  I really liked The Soup, and reviving it this way was something I really looked forward to.  Imagine my horror to find out it's mostly over for a while.

Apparently they're doing a short series this summer, which is good. But this is a show which really should be on every week, like John Oliver's show.
