Sharp and Benning may have the context of Mattison's context pinned. Saying it was a way of selling the prestige of Michigan and the the degree. But that it's still a very backhanded and arrogant way of doing it. And that there's really no reason to even go there. Both sides already knew that football was the ONLY reason for any interest on both sides.

Staff did some nice work securing his commitment, but the reality is, we should ALWAYS secure commitments from the state's top talent.

One thing worth noting: He was originally from Texas? So it's not like he was born and raised as a Husker. I might be wrong, so if I am just let me know.

I don't remember the locations exactly but you are correct that he hasn't lived in Nebraska his whole life.

Arrogance from Michigan about their academic prestige? I, for one, am as shocked as Bill Belichick.

Neal said Michigan came in and said that if it wasn't for football, he wouldn't get into Michigan. Neal said it felt like they were calling him poor and dumb. That ended the wolverines chances. His dad said Michigan was basically escorted out of his home after that statement.

Wow....that is an impressive recruiting tactic.

It seems to me like he was trying to say that Michigan was a great academic school and Daishon's grades were not good enough to merit entry. Fortunately, through football, he could have access to that level of education. I understand it was not taken that way but I doubt that Mattison would shove his foot that far in his mouth. This is not his first rodeo.

edit: huskerhill beat me to it. Darn my slow fingers...

Sounds to me like he was saying that at Michigan we bend our rules for the football team. .......... I did not bother looking but Uof M is a huge public school so my guess is that while they have some standards they are not Stanford. Maybe Harbaugh forgot that he can not use the Academic prestige of his school to steal from other teams like he may have done at Stanford.
