Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere but apparently McMullen might be moved inside..

Wait, what?

Riley was asked about him, said he might be moved inside because he is 290 or so. Obviously still being evaluated and the lack of depth at DE makes it even more confusing..

And I think that we need to pump the breaks a bit on the Collin's hype. Was he good last year? Yes. But he is going to have to take a BIG step forward this year to consider leaving early for the league.

Collins and Valentine performed better than anyone on the defense last year. In many instances, it wasnt even close. Within the scheme, that tandem was bar none the defensive leaders. Collins is the real deal. Whether it was simply rogue play or the coaches cuttin him loose, whenever he decided to shoot a gap, get of the ball and penetrate to disrupt, he was unblockable. It's gonna be fun this year in a more aggresive front scheme watching him and Valentine get after it.

Yeah, he does need to take a step forward, but with Maliek, the hype is justifiable.

tell that to Flash Gordon.......he didn't even know he was in the game.

If you know the scheme and know how it works, you'd know that Collins and Valentine did do their job in that game most of the time. Frankly, they were the only ones. it was the break downs on the edge and in our back 7 with our stupidley over-complicated run fits that allowed that stuff to happen. That's where this new scheme is apparently gonna be different. Penetrate and disrupt and spill it to the outside using the sideline as an extra defender and let our athleticism at linebacker and in the secondary just run sh#t down without having to think so much about fitting particular gaps. Now obviously, it sounds a lot simpler than it's actually gonna be, but in essence, it is significantly simpler than it has been. And in this day and age of football with how offense is played, you have to be able to think less, and run more.

No, Gordon did not know he was in the game. But it wasnt Collins job to make 20 tackles either.

Rivals has a nice Premium Content preview from yesterday's Spring Practice:

There's a lot of "oh, this player looked good" "that player looked good", but what was interesting to me was that across the board, the writers marveled at Mike Riley's coaching style. They talked about how he observed around and moved in when necessary, but for the most part trusted his assistants to teach. They seemed to feel there was a big contrast here. You get the feeling they were like, "Oh, yeah, so THAT'S what a veteran coach coaches like."

Kind of more to what Count was saying earlier, Flash Gordon didn't even know he [Maliek] was in the game because Wisconsin had the most success running left or right, but IIRC had limited success running up the gut. In fact, most of their problems early on came from trying to run up the gut and getting stuffed by Maliek and VV.

TGHusker ... Many of us here at Katy have noticed the similarities as Katy runs out of the "I formation" most of the time and we are known for our ground game. Katy has had the same offense for decades ... student body left, student body right and right up main street. Few teams here in Texas have bveen able to stop the Katy Tiger ground game. The unis along with the offense reminds me of some of the Husker teams of the past ... especially when Mike Rozier was running the ball.. Looking forward to see Adam this year. Knowing how he responds to adversity, I'm sure he will be ready when it's time to tee-it up.

I expect, hope, he is the starting back after spring.

Yeah, though really they had success all over the field, but they ha the most yards and like 19 ypc on the outside.
