And people wonder why the US is so divided

Recommended Posts

The news today regarding the campus shooting is horrific. It's hard to describe in words the sadness many American feels when any tragedy like this happens. What is even more horrific, however, is that within a matter of hours...not days...hours, this President goes before the American people to make a political argument about gun control, and openly calls out that he is speaking to politicize the tragedy.

This President has done a great deal to divide this nation moreso than any other President in US History, and its moments like this that deepens the divide. Those affected by this tragedy are still in shock, trying to deal with what just happened to a love one, trying to find answers, and rather than having the President there to offer his condolences, they are victims again of his decision to go on a political rant.

Mr. President...where is the anger in your voice when Ferguson burned to the ground after many of your supporters helped incite the riot? Where is the anger in your voice when many innocent police officers have been killed in recent months due to the propaganda being spewed by your supporters....these same police officers that risked their lives today to rush to the scene of this horrific tragedy. Maybe for a moment you could put your political ideology aside and start acting like a real President, one that we can be proud of.

Yes, the President is disgusting in almost every way possible. He has been, without question, the worst President ever. He still has another 15 months to 'finish the job' and stake his claim in the history books to being the worst President and one of the poorest world leaders in the past 100 years.

I just don't really get it. Like, all evidence anywhere supports the idea that less guns = less deaths by guns, and for some reason we can't consider even the most basic of possibilities to not eliminate, but at least over time lessen, mass gun deaths?

Australia had 12 mass shootings in 18 years before their dramatic gun control reform. Since, no mass shootings, firearm suicide rates down 80%, firearm murders down 50%. I guess there are no mentally disturbed people in Australia, since guns don't kill people, only the crazies do and if they're determined enough they'll get one no matter what.

The United States' number of DUI's has dropped 2/3 in a few decades by raising the legal limit, imposing stricter charges against bartenders who serve drunks, etc. But if someone is determined to get drunk and drive, no laws are going to stop them, right? Forget the evidence.

The entire world looks at America and gun culture and either laughs or shutters.

And for very good reason. You have all of these people justifying that firearms should remain legal because if an individual wants to go out and harm people or themselves that they will find a way. Complete and utter bullsh#t. How often do you hear about mass attacks involving anything other than a gun? Make firearm sales illegal already. There just isn't a reason for anyone to own a gun that isn't a hunting rifle or something.

What's an acceptable amount of time to wait after a tragedy for the President to address it?

If he waits too long or doesn't comment at all he gets criticized for not caring. If he doesn't wait long enough he gets criticized for trying to make political points.

Certainly not hours after the tragedy when some family members still didn't know if there loved one was killed. Here is what the President should have said:

"Today we are here to mourn the loss of more young lives lost to a madman, and our prayers and condolences go out to those families and loved ones affected. There is too much gun violence in this nation, and I call on members of both parties to come together and partner with me to analyze why this continues to happen, but that is not a discussion for today. Today we must support the families and the community college during this difficult time. Thank you very much."

Exactly how I feel. In the end America has shown that it simply cannot handle legal firearms.

Meanwhile, I'm laughing (and everyone else should be, as well) at EU citizens who are being kicked out of their homes in order to make room for the "refugees". Do you think that elected (and unelected, in the case of EU leadership) would try something like that if they knew that their citizens were armed?

Additionally, for those who want to suspend 2nd Amendment rights...well...won't be long until 1st Amendment goes the same way.

Umm, how about this recent research study conducted by the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy which found that there is an Inverse (negative) relationship between gun ownership and violent crime, and nations with the highest gun control laws have substantially higher murder rates. You would think that Obama would have contacted his alma mater regarding this recent publication before going on his rant yesterday.
