mrandyk
Not into the paperwork? Here I thought high office in our government was fun and games. Never would have guessed there was real work involved. Link to comment
Danny Bateman
Thanks for that BRB. Good stuff. I had heard DeVos was related to the Blackwater guy, but I neither knew who he was or what it was. Now I know. In September, Prince backed Trump’s proposal to commandeer Iraq’s 2 million barrels of daily oil output. “For Mr. Trump to say, ‘We’re going to take their oil––certainly we’re not going to lift it out of there and take it somewhere else, but putting it into production, and putting a tolling arrangement into place, to repay the American taxpayers for their efforts to remove Saddam and to stabilize the area, is doable, and very plausible,” Prince said on Breitbart Radio. Prince’s sister, Betsy DeVos, is Trump’s nominee for education secretary and she has all but vowed to embark on a crusade to push a privatization and religious agenda in education that mirrors her brother’s in military and CIA affairs. Prince has long been a contributor to the campaign of fellow Christian warrior Mike Pence, and he contributed $100,000 to the pro-Trump Super PAC Make America Number 1. Prince’s mother, Elsa, pitched in another $50,000. That organization, run by Rebekah Mercer, daughter of billionaire hedge funder Robert Mercer, was one of the strongest bankrollers of Trump’s campaign. According to New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, in December Prince attended the annual “Villains and Heroes” costume ball hosted by Mercer. Dowd wrote that Palantir founder Peter Thiel showed her “a picture on his phone of him posing with Erik Prince, who founded the private military company Blackwater, and Mr. Trump — who had no costume — but joke[d] that it was ’N.S.F.I.’ (Not Safe for the Internet).” This is all beginning to feel a bit incestuous, is it not? He's drawing almost everyone from the same small circles. If you believe in those circles, you probably think it's a great gambit. If you don't believe in them... Oy. Quite a time to be alive. BigRedBuster
LINK THE INTERCEPT revealed last week that Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the the Department of Homeland Security, retired Marine Corps Gen. John F. Kelly, did not disclose on his ethics form that he was listed as a vice chairman at the Spectrum Group, a defense contractor lobbying firm. Now, it appears that Kelly failed to list two other positions as well: board memberships with Michael Baker International and Sallyport Global, two defense contractors that do business with the U.S. government. Federal law requires Senate-confirmed nominees to list all positions at outside organizations on ethics forms that are vetted by the Office of Government Ethics and released to both the public and lawmakers. But the board memberships, like the Spectrum Group vice chairmanship, were not listed on Kelly’s federal ethics disclosure form nor his letter to the Homeland Security Department’s designated ethics official. NM11046
I'm actually pretty pleased with how the dems questioned her. The bears/guns comment was odd but her inability to explain basic common educator terms and goals was just jaw dropping. Link to comment
knapplc
Everyone repeating the Republican talking point, "Just give them a chance! What could go wrong?" This is your Education Secretary nominee. Any questions? Link to comment

Cdog923
I knew DeVos would be a damned nightmare when she was first announced, but holy hell, it's 10x worse than I thought. Kiss public education goodbye if she manages to get confirmed. 1 Link to comment
