Trump's America

Almost made another topic for this but we seem to have so many different ones on a similar subject.

How is a president who likely still doesn't get all of his intelligence briefings or pay attention to the ones he gets, and gets most of his "intelligence" from Fox News and CNN, going to help protect the country from the terrorists he supposedly so strongly opposes?

And why are the Republicans SUCH hypocrites on this issue. Can you imagine if we elected some pansy-a** libt**d as president and they ignored the FBI and CIA and got all of their news from TV, what the response from your average, every day Republican would be? It's amazing how many people changed overnight. Miraculous, even.

"President Hillary Clinton fired the acting FBI director leading an investigation into her private email server today..."

"President Hillary Clinton is discussing her ability to pardon aides, family members and herself in response to the ongoing special prosecutor probe into her handling of classified information..."

"President Hillary Clinton today criticized her AG today on Twitter and questioned why they were not investigating Donald Trump for tax evasion and money laundering..."

Try to imagine what would be airing on Fox News, conservative radio, Breitbart etc. if the roles were reversed. Let alone what would be transpiring in Congress.

I'd post that head exploding gif from Scanners but I use that one too much.

Did you really want them too come out against Trump, and chance damaging their organization (or damaging participation across the country).

They damage themselves more by not stating that it was what it was. Remember,

One of my FB friends made a post asking why Trump is holding a rally when he already won the election, and someone replied:

"Not according to the Democratic National party. They are still actively contesting it. See Russia interference, Russian collusion, antifa, KKK protests, BLM rallies, etc... All sponsored by the DNC to cause chaos and attempt to reverse the election."

I fear we're getting to the point where it's not possible to save people from their own stupidity. At least 30+ years ago when the morons watched the news, they got the actual news.

Speaking of, this story popped up on my tweeters last night.

I'd Like to Report a Scam Against the Elderly

That Fox has ended up gulling a president is a programming accident. When the late Roger Ailes conceived Fox News two decades ago, he hoped to create shows that attracted—is there a polite way to put this?—an older demographic that seeks news that reinforces its prejudices and rarely challenges them. And he succeeded. It was only by chance that Ailes ended up creating a network that appealed to this particular flighty, low-attention-span 71-year-old.

The Ailes demographic wants to be told that the world is going to hell, a message that harmonizes with the declining status and health many of them experience. The Ailes demographic wants simple and reductionist viewpoints on America’s cultural and policy dilemmas—from crime to immigration to taxes to war and trade. The Ailes demographic seeks the restoration of the social mores it remembers from its youth, and if the past can’t be restored, it wants modern mores castigated. And it wants to be frightened and outraged. Fox almost never disappoints them.

It was the network’s dumb luck that Trump aged into its core audience as he reached the White House. Like so many of his fellow senior citizens, Trump now spends his golden years huddled at the Fox hearth, shouting amen as it voices his resentments and disappointments. Only the hearth is in the White House. As news, real and not, travels from Fox’s lips to Trump’s tweets, we have the chance to see media history in the making. Presidents have, from time to time, courted publications to advance a White House agenda or steered the news by feeding tips to columnists and reporters, but never before has a president so consistently echoed an outlet’s message.

We both know that isn't true. A lot of boy scouts in rural America.... Also, just because they're taking the bi-partisan approach doesn't mean they're lacking loyalty, integrity, etc.

It just means they've decided fealty to the President is the same as duty to Country, and that the current President has done nothing to change this calculus.

:shrug. They're not "my" organization, and so can be whatever they want.

I think the fundamental question here is whether Trump's behavior is simply a partisan question, where it's reasonable to be "bipartisan" about it, or whether it's a fundamental transgression.

In other news: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/26/us/politics/trump-transgender-military.html

please be advised that the United States government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. military,” Mr. Trump wrote. “Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.”

Remember when we entertained "unconventional" ideas like how the Trump admin might actually somehow be good for the LGBT community?

Are we America or are we Turkey? https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/7/25/16025150/jeff-sessions-donald-trump-resigns

If Trump can actually manage to make this happen — by installing cronies at the Justice Department who will shut down investigations he doesn’t like and start up ones he wants — it would mean a remarkable slide into illiberalism, and it would violate decades’ worth of norms in American government and about the rule of law.

And potentially the scariest thing of all is that he might just be able to get away with it — unless Republicans in Congress stand up to him.

For those with any love of Country, the answer is clear.
